I just took an alt from 1 to 55. I leveled up doing fates, leves msq and the odd side quest here and there. I know for a fact that the necessity of sprint before getting access to mounts is very exaggerated. If the issue is boredom from doing the run on your 20th alt then I guess it's still OK because this game is made so you can have everything on one character.

This game isn't slow at all by mmo standards. Besides final fantasy isn't a universe where everyone flies trough the air at lightspeed and boosts themselves across the streets in a flash. It's a universe of ships, airships, chocobos and the occasional floating city.
It would feel and look hugely out of place if everyone was on Crack all the time.

Necessity of anything is in the eye of the beholder. You can do everything, but not really. There are caps on gears, items, and progression. I said it before, but earning something once is a rewarding privilege in my point of view. But the game isn't built for just my point of view. Not everyone thinks the privilege is worth slogging through a slow game for 20-30 hours before it gets good.

Combat doesn't get interesting or quick until much later. Some might say that repeated thing, that all mmos start out slow, and that's not really true. Some do and some don't. But some reviews and videos and stuff point out the game starts too slow.

It should never be ok for a game to get boring for players from the developer's view. Regardless if the game was designed for one character can be everything, there are limitations. And why would a dev want to push away players used to alt based games?

The original director wondered if jump was needed for a Final Fantasy. Final Fantasy has no boundaries, each entry can be as similar or different from the next. If the universe was set in stone, FFXV would never have happened because the traditional FF is turn based. Now I am not saying XV is good or bad, but just reiterating that FF has no boundaries.

Let's not exaggerate, just because sprint could be unlimited, doesn't mean it would always be used. Teleports and mounts are still faster for long travels, and you can't shop at a vendor sprinting by.

I think the developers are doing the opposite of pushing players away from the game.

I'm all for trimming down the filler content up until level 50 though. However leveling 1-ishgard is now extremely fast, even without te exp items.

The one complaint I've had from the 3 friends I've recruited and a common theme in the novice chat is the fillers in msq.

I'm also all for having the old CD on sprint in towns only. Anything outside of that is, in my personal opinion, way out of bounds. Both in regards to immersion and as a setup for future cut of actual game interaction.

The fillers are responsible for the drop-off in new players, more so than the lack of movespeed enhancement, I think.

Combat being slow before end game is another issue entirely.
