Instead of insulting me and certain groups of people, why don't you be an adult and answer the question?
What evidence do you have in XIV that people will spam jump all the time?
There isn't any on top of Dragon throwing out his entire argument with "Cool story bro.". Someone needs to go back to their single player RPG's if what other players do bothers them that much. Learning something about how MMO's function would be good too.
LOL Same could be said for you. This is an MMORPG you don't need a mailbox.
This is an MMORPG you don't need LS administration.
This is an MMORPG you don't need an AH.
This is an MMORPG you don't need a LFG tool.
We don't need any of those things either. We've been playing without them for over a year.
Who are you to define what makes an MMO?
And the statement I placed in bold for you, they didn't; otherwise it would have been part of the game in Beta, OB and at release. You and the "collective FFXIV jumpers community" QQ'd enough for them to ADD IT.So before you ask someone else what makes them define an MMO, who the hell gave YOU the right to bitch enough to add something that wasn't intended for the game and has no use in the game what so ever?
I'm not the one that thinks the ability or inability to jump defines an MMO. I simply don't care one way or there other. I played EVE for 4 years and for 3 of them I couldn't even see my own character. It's immaterial to the larger experience for me.LOL Same could be said for you.

Oh please. The developers released a poorly optimized tech demo for Crystal Tools that was missing a lot of things.
Actually, the technical demo was pretty optimized, you do mean the 2005 xbox 360 hardware test of 'Rapture' yes? FFXIII is also another well optimized games (few glitches here and there, i.e infinite jump glitch, but what game doesn't have glitches here and there?)I'm not the one that thinks the ability or inability to jump defines an MMO. Also, a technical demo is always "missing a lot of things", thus "Technical Demo". XIV was unpolished but far from a technical demo.
I am now expecting if Dragoon gets the ability Jump but because of all the raging about not wanting to jump, if we don't get jump. I expect to see parties of Dragoons, of people wanting jump, spamming the Jump ability at all camps, just to prove how you can't appease everyone.
Long story short, anything can annoy people but do you want to honestly punish people one way or another because the game wasn't made to YOUR specifications.
Xeto Milanti Bei
I've been meaning to ask the same thing actually.
Someone else also pointed out that in many cut scenes from other Final Fantasy titles we can see plenty of non-realistic jumping (super high jumps, bounce off walls or slide on cables, fall from terrible height as if it was nothing, etc.) And yet, some want us tied to the ground, others to be able to jump knee-high only... Hmm... I don't understand, isn't it Final Fantasy? I believe we should be able to jump a good height.
LOL cash shop! SE's way to tell their player how they appreciate them... pull the carrot and empty your pockets $$$
And to those who support it: you are kicking yourselves. -- We just need to sit back and laugh at people with cash shop items.
(Marvelous economics IQ test!)
It bothers me that the vast majority of this thread is either 'pro-jump' advocates poking fun at their 'anti-jump' equivalents as they continue to straw man the arguments to suit their cases. Why is this argument so black and white?
As it stands now, FFXIV is sorely in need some form of 3d movement, even in it's current maps supposedly not designed for it. People have already mentioned the "teleport slide" that occurs on traversable inclines and bemoaned the lack of an ability to drop from small ledges.
Personally, I think what FFXIV really needs is a "fall" in order to solve the sliding issue. Even many 2.5d games from the 90s had falling, and they didn't even have real 3d maps! If those physics come as a result of implementing an unrealistic jump, then I am ok with that. As far as I'm concerned, the argument of 'jump spam' is hardly worth it's weight considering the potential of spamming any other facet of MMO chat or interaction (emotes, yells, whispers).
On the other side of the argument, I agree that the alpha jump shown by Yoshi-P isn't consistent with the style of FFXIV, but again, this is an alpha animation. I'm sure with enough people mentioning the height and animation issues, it will be tweaked before final implementation.
IF in the event it is being considered simply as a cosmetic feature (which goes against almost every person advocating the idea), then there would be cause for alarm. However as a physics feature, the potential for gameplay variety in instances in the future is enormous, and duly welcome current maps with 3d issues.
For those who are wary of immersion breaking, perhaps you should consider the feature's potential as an immersion supplement. I feel stiff-sliding down hills and running at small ledges are infinitely more immersion breaking than a couple of Lalafell "bunny hopping" through Ul'dah.
