Take another look at the screen shot of actual gameplay they posted .
I'd post the link, but I'm sure you;ve seen it.
Now, after seeing that, can you see how really long names would be a problem?
Probably not.
I want to keep all my gold. I don't care. Not surprising in the very least.

No, i'm sorry, I fail to see how long names in UI are an issue. The longest name there is Romeo Guildenstern (wich I consider a long name, but I've seen longer ones) and it perfectly fits the party UI, also it looks fine over the character's head wich honestly is odd since there are tons of informations over the characters (name, LS, title and company).
I'm a designer myself and I know for basic knowledge that if you wanna improve something you have to create as little hassle as possible, so if the lenght of names is really a problem it's common sense to see if there isn't any other solution that doesn't force ppl to change the name they're already using, because it would be a big hassle.
So IMHO the best solution would be to riarrange the UI to contain all the informations (abbreviate names in party UI, move the company name over/under the character's name, lower the font body).
So no, it's not me afraid of changes, it's just ppl here bitching.

Why did Yoshi-san mention it then?

Perhaps since there is so much information on the screen, that having shorter names would make it easier to read? I imagine that no one would concede that point.
Perhaps you're not a game developer for Square Enix.
Why people continue to try and emphasize their point by stating that other people are whining, bitching or complaining is beyond me.

Clearly I'm not, I'm not even a game designer, is it relevant?
I think I gave a rational explanation of the reason I think this idea is BS, also what I said is basic knowledge for every designer, can you argue with something smarter than "you're not working for SE"?
About Yoshi... actually I have nothing to say, I was quite shocked when I read that thing, asking hundreds of players to change their names because of "UI issues" is just dumb, there are ton of better solutions.

Are you really saying that asking everyone to change their names is a better solution than adapting a UI that is not even done yet??
That's the dumbest thing I've ever read.
Uhm... maybe because this is plain bitching? Seriously people are saying sending /tells is hard lol...

The producer brought up the issue. He did say "may need to".Are you really saying that asking everyone to change their names is a better solution than adapting a UI that is not even done yet??

It is not dumb. They are dealing with a complex program.
I hardly expect anything more than this.
It's was a discussion. I apologize for even starting this poll. It was a huge mistake to expect a more rational response from players than what most have displayed.
