I'm not against mounts other than chocobos, magitek armors sound great... but I think it'd look tacky if these tamed wild monster mounts are made into an every day common item when this goes mainstream.
That's exactly what these example mounts represent.. A reward for players who played before 2.0.

Magitech is also acceptable because it's an iconic thing from a previous game, and we already have established magitech in this world as well.

I understand wanting a huge variety of creatures to ride, but that doesn't make the game feel like Final Fantasy, it just makes it feel generic.
So you're saying that FFXIV can't implement things that haven't been in previous Final Fantasy games because it won't be Final Fantasy enough? If SE followed that logic from the start we'd still be playing strictly the classes FF1 and moogles wouldn't exist. Everyone is too afraid to try new things. Sticking to the same old same old every FF game will just make the franchise stale. And really, SE has made each FF addition pretty distinct from its predecessors. Why shouldn't this game be?

Chocobos and airships will still be the primary mode of transportation. Chocobos aren't getting replaced here.

Even with that aside, these aren't random creatures from real life or other MMOs. These are Final Fantasy mobs. Ahriman? Goobbues? Are you trying to say a Final Fantasy mob isn't Final Fantasy enough for FFXIV?

And now we are supposed to be okay with a bah-zillion players ridding them as mounts?
One of the problems with referring to lore is that these mounts are coming in 2.0, AFTER this huge world-changing catastrophe. Who's to say this won't be a million times more plausible when that time comes? Yoshi knows the story and he came up with this idea. He's been doing a good job so far.
