I'm gonna vent a little here (or a lot). I know I'm gonna get hate for this, so call me a baby, call me entitled, whatever. But I've noticed a trend these days. I switched to SAM when SB launched. Love the job. It's everything I wanted in a dps job. The problem I have is that SAM's are not a high priority for rezzing in 8 man content.
DISCLAIMER: I fully understand WHY this is the case. I have healer friends who laid out their priorities for divvying out rezzes amongsts DPS jobs. Hence I said DPS, so this doesn't include healers or tanks. But the healer priority for rezzing dps is Anyone who can rez someone, i.e. SMN and RDM. Fair. They help the healer out in that department. Anyone who can Mana Shift for them, i.e. casters. Also fair and completely understandable. After that it comes down to what utility you provide the raid. In which case, SAM is last on the list. Once again, I fully understand this logic. If I were a healer, I'd probably have the same priorities. But it becomes a problem for me when all other dps are dead and then I inevitably die because mechanics require more people, or the healers can't keep up. Not bashing anyone, these things happen. But the problem is that I've been in groups with 3 other dps who clearly don't know what they're doing. They don't know mechanics, they don't know their job or rotation and don't use their utilities. Yet these people always get rezzed before a SAM. I've seen it happen where the other 3 dps were dead and then I died from unavoidable mechanics. The healers manage to rez the other 3 before me, but then the RDM dies again. The healers rez them and leave me on the floor. Then the BLM dies. They get a rez before me. And so on and so forth. It feels like if you die as a SAM, whether it was your fault or not, that's it. Get comfy because no one gives a damn. At what point is it more beneficial to rez a player who knows what they're doing yet doesn't have any raid utility before someone who has utility, yet doesn't know the mechanics or even worse, doesn't use their utility? It irks me to death. I'm sorry I can't give you Mana. All im good for is damage and maybe a Goad if one of the tanks needs it. I get it. I truly do. But I would encourage healers to pay attention to which players are actually performing adequately and maybe prioritize rezzing that player because their contribution to the group would be more than the RDM who doesn't vril, or doesn't pay attention to the lightning markers in Susan EX. Mind you, this is only the case in most fail groups I've had. In good groups, this isn't even an issue because no one is dying. Just my two cents. /End rant.
Only problem I have with this is anytime I'm on a caster (Including RDM) and get Doma Castle or higher with a DRG..(Haven't seen a DRG in Bardam's Mettle yet) I will literally stand next to said DRG for Dragon Sight (+5% dmg? I'll take it) ... only to still watch them throw it on the tank.. By the second boss I'm back standing where ever I feel like it..
Tried Shin Ryu three different times with about four wipes each, still can't get passed it... people are sitting in the water when he casts Judgement Bolt and are dying to Proximity on Add phase... feelsbadman.
I'm sorry to hear Shinryu is causing you grief. Alas I don't think (?) we are not on the same datacenter, otherwise I'd offer to heal for you and if my bf was on he'd tank. That fight is all about communication and coordination and if those are lacking a fantastic fight can become really frustrating. I wish you the best of luck.
No DF just openworld.
I want to get the last few pieces of Fox lady fragments and be done with it.(never fight or ran into her ever...)
So I did Kinko and Ginko alone.Start outfoxed and ... finished !
Then message poped "Unable to get blah blah fragment"
I'm surpised and after checking inventory...its full...
/facepalm to myself.
It shouldn't happened... such an amateur mistake...
Only myself to blame though.
I main healers, mostly WHM, but one thing I think I've gained from leveling AST lately is a greater amount of focus spent on evaluating some of the criteria you lay out here. It started because my boyfriend was leveling DRG and we would party together and even though DRG isn't the highest damage job I would obviously want to throw him as many buff cards as I could because I knew he would get the most use out of them as he could.
We would be grouped with a DPS that outclasses DRG in general and I would watch the other DPS through the first pull or two to see how they were doing. Just looking for key combos and moves that I knew I should be seeing. If it was a high DPS class like BLM and they looked to have a strong rotation they would get buffed, if not I would keep it all on my boyfriend.
Anyways, this has now worked it's way into my rez priority. Cohealer is virtually always first (unless both tanks are dead or there is an important OT mechanic and then if either tank is dead) or my cohealer is crap. After that though I tend to consider what I've actually observed instead of just going RDM, SMN and down the line.
Also, on the subject of a crap cohealer...
-Queue for Trial Roulette as AST, get Susano with WHM cohealer.
-Be prepared to heal most of the fight since Noct AST is OP AF and WHM single target DPS is much better
-Tanks pull quickly so no one has said more than hi but I start shielding to let the WHM know she can DPS.
-Two DPS eat Rasen circle AoEs and die, they appear to DC as well, we just have a DRG and a BRD now.
-Cohealer is not DPSing beyond an Aero II ticking on the boss despite me precasting my Benefic II on the already shielded tank to virtually eliminate health loss from tankbusters.
-There isn't much to heal (especially with only 6 party members) so I try to pump out some of that amaxing (lol) AST DPS.
-Sus marks up the BRD to knockback and the safe line shows up, I'm in it but my cohealer is standing a ways outside, tetra is on CD and she is at 2/3 health. She eats the knock up and promptly dies.
-In party chat she had typed "help heal pls" and, presumeably, typing that is why she was standing in the bad and is eating up my swiftcasted raise.
-since she still isn't DPSing I go in with my minimal AST DPS and we do manage to kill him before the Ukehi gets too bad. A few bad spots, particularly when I get stuck in the gaol and she does nothing about a tankbuster in that time (too bust attacking the wromg gaol despite me marking the one I was in) forcing the PLD to heal himself up with Clemency.
Healing is not for everyone and that is okay. I make an awful tank. I'm not even saying don't try but at least don't insult your cohealer just because this is not a thing your brain does.
Adding Basically DRG for those who haven't seen it

Ran Titan HM as a PLD for Trials Roulette. The healers were 2 ASTs. One of them put on Diurnal. The other never had a sect on, even through a wipe and a reminder to put one on.
I just don't understand some people, who, when expected to run a race free of any impediments, instead choose to drag a dead cow behind them the whole way.
