The sad state of customization

I feel like unusual skintones and/or hair color are probably the easiest ways to stand out from other people.

Most Au Ra I see use normal skintones and I almost never see green hair in general, so I feel fairly distinctive in that regard (Ebony skin isn't all that uncommon, but I still see it less then some others).

There's a difference in looking like a living thing and looking like a Frankenstein monster. Half the skin palette limits what type of color you could use. Don't even get me started on voices. If you just slap on random colors, I'm more liable to stare and go, "What in God's name happen to your character and why does it looking/sound like that!?" Some voice types just shouldn't exist in this game...

The costumization in this game is as bad as the one in splatoon, I feel like all characters look the same.

I haven't seen too many characters with unorthodox skin tones, but I think they all pulled it off well (I might just be a bad critic, though).

I would like to see someone who manages to make that bright red skin tone Raen Aura have access to look good, though. The really deep tones seem more difficult to work with then the lighter ones.

As far as voices go, I cringe a little whenever I run into someone with that squeaky female Miqo'te voice.

Agree to disagree. Your avatar is your avatar, and obviously she should fit your personal tastes, but, really?

It seems really silly to me that players like you look at a race like Au Ra that has;
-women are half the size of their men
-massive horn-like protrusions that work like antennae instead of ears
-large patches of off-white or dark blue scales scattered on their bodies
-tails that are completely scaled and often spiked
-brightly glowing rings of color in their eyes


And yet the thing that made her look like a monster was not having a Caucasian skin-tone? Really??

I agree that customizing the physical characteristics of your character could be better. However, the character detail dwarfs most entries in the genre. The available selection of hairstyles is better than most other MMOs, not to mention the voice customization, which isn't offered by any other MMO I can think of.

As for clipping issues, FFXIV is probably the best game on the market when it comes to avoiding those. Long hair clips through some coats/jackets, some weapons clip through certain items of clothing, but it's nowhere near as bad as other well-known MMOs.

Don't get me started on female Lalas spamming that joy/laugh emote in the Limsa marketplace. Like nails on a chalkboard.

I don't think SE wants to improve the game, they are just milking it while players support it then they will move to the next MMO they come up with, it's hateful!...

Not all is lost though, thanks to a certain post in a certain topic inside the forums I learnt it's possible to mod the game and with that possibility "modders" can give us what SE refuses to like removing the hideous sandals and maybe even 4K textures, I doubt they'll do the latter because of the amount of work it takes, in any case this can easily increase customization in the game, the downside is that it may be against the ToS and it would be risky to use!...

I hope SE is aware of "mods" and that they'll do what is correct and give us what we want!...

gw2 have mostly no clipping at all. ff14 is far from "the best game on the market when it comes to avoiding those". there mostly no clipping in BDO but not so much gear sets as well. now if the gear sets in ff14 was all looking good then what ever clip on but most of the gear are not good looking(low resolution texture ), some are in your face in cutscenes.
most new big mmo from 2010-2017 do have voice customization.


SigmaOZ mods in an mmo are bad. if you use them you will be the only one to see them.

Uh.. I'm not one to fanboy, but the FFXIV devs seem to be one of the few dev teams that actually care about the product they put out, and how players feel about that product. I don't think "hateful" describes them very well.

As for mods and such, the launcher would probably detect them and re-download any game files that have been replaced or tampered with, so good luck with that.
