Just to step in and offer a slight correction...this was certainly the reason Cid decided to defect from Garlemald but within Garlemald itself many were opposed to the Meteor Project. Gaius and Varis are amongst those who expressed their doubts and opposition and they just happen to be two of the most prominent Garlean characters that we've encountered to date. It's all wonderfully nuanced with shades of grey rather than white and black!

As for what is next? I suspect that the upcoming patches will focus around the rebuilding of Ala Mhigo and Doma. The latter already has a clear leader figure in the form of Hien but for Ala Mhigo things are less clear. There's also Fordola and Yotsuyu to consider as their stories are clearly not over and they will seemingly have a major part to play in the patches to come.

I'm personally hoping that the Garlean Consulate in Kugane will be used to push for diplomatic relations with Garlemald. Realistically the Warrior of Light and Scions should be doing everything possible to avoid further bloodshed - good men and women will be slain on both sides of the conflict if it continues and by all accounts the Scions should be far more neutral as a faction than it currently is. I'm hoping we will get a 'Larsa' type character that serves to build a bridge between Garlemald and the Warrior of Light. We could have had that in Regula but he was, unfortunately, slain. That his sacrifice has not given the Warrior of Light and Scions any pause in regards to their crusade is very troubling in itself, though. So hopefully that is addressed in the patches to come.
