MSQ - what's next? [spoilers]

I think the next major MSQ content will have us dealing with Fordola and the remaining Skulls. Most of the storylines have wrapped up quite nicely, but there are a few loose ends with her, the reconstruction of Doma, the return of Gosetsu and Yotsuyu, and possibly some new plot threads in the Azim Steppe.

They did mention we'd be learning more about what happened to the Isle of Val (They hinted that it wasn't exactly destroyed, so I'm leaning towards "drawn into the void" like its FFV namesake was) some time in the 4.x cycle, so I'm curious as to whether or not we'll get directly involved in the investigation somehow.

There was obviously something the Ascians didn't want us knowing about over there, so perhaps it can still retrieved if the isle is still intact wherever it's gone.

Personally I feel Hingashi and Thavnair are too small to be proper expansions - they're both rather small island nations. Other than the areas others have already pointed out, the only place currently on the map large enough to host an actual expansion is... Garlemald's home turf.

Alphinaud talked about planning a vacation to Old Sharlayan at some point near the end of the MSQ. I could potentially see a global "island" expansion with it, Thavnair, and more of Hingashi before we start pushing into Ilsabard.

Sharlya would be a wonderful new destination. For all we know they could have skyscrapers, cars and blitzball over there due to their magic and technological advancements. They are really the only civilization that has shown a level of innovation to match the Garleans and their non-interventionist nature lends itself as an answer to why they haven't used such yet for attack or defense.

It would also be a nice place for another housing plot to be created if the developers so chose.

My current pet theory is that at least some of the remaining MSQ will have to deal with Zenos's new sword, the Ame-no-Habakiri. The fight where Zenos's previous sword was shattered felt like it was pretty much there to get Yotsuyu's gift into his hands, but then it never has a chance to become a relevant plot point before we defeat Zenos. Plus the first time he tries out the sword he goes all black-and-red glowy powerup mode, which happens to be the same colors used in the Art of the Sword attack the AnH uses in Ala Mhigo (cursed sword if I've ever saw one). The sword even has a lore-flavor name (The Ame-no-Habakiri is the sword Susanoo used to defeat Yamata-no-Orochi in Japanese mythology), despite afaik only ever showing up as a name you click to target in a fight one time. It seems to be a lot of detail to a sword that doesn't amount to much in the end.

Plus, what kind of JRPG using a Japanese theme doesn't wanna include Orochi in there somewhere?

I wonder if we're going to see more of Aulus. I didn't think the WoL killed him in the Ala Mhigo dungeon, so if he's still running around, he could be trouble.

I'm wondering if the imperials just left behind all of their tech in Ala Mhigo, or if they had the sense to destroy it before they retreated.

Getting some more insight into their Echo-related research sooner then later would be nice.

There's always that theory floating around that he's Elidibus, but who knows what his deal actually is. Either way, I think his ability to rip our souls out of our bodies is maybe more impressive than creating resonance, despite it just being relegated to a fight mechanic.

I'm thinking we'll have deal with the rebuilding of both Ala Mihgo and Doma.

For Doma, they have a really interesting question: how do they deal with Yotsuyu? Yotsuyu was undeniably a sadistic tyrant, but what kind of punishment fits her? Do they execute her? Send her to a jail? Enforced servitude (if they're especially cruel, back in the "pleasure houses")? Do they forgive her crimes, and hope she seeks atonement?

Depending on how they answer that question, it will change the entire philosophy of the new Doman government. Personally, I think that's whole reason she survived, since it will pose a very interesting dilemma for Hien and the rest of the Doman characters. I'm curious to see how that particular plot element evolves over time.
