(My way of saying; Final Fantasy has a few constants, but the rest changes. If I can riiide ze shoopuff in between chocobos and not have it break Final Fantasy, I think I should be able to ride my hard-earned drake and not have it break Final Fantasy.)

Shoopuf was for crossing deep waters in a world where colored Chocobos were not present. Drakes/Goobues/Ahriman are for... doing exactly what Chocobos do. Like I said previously, I'm not completely opposed to it, but Chocobos need to be much much more common than anything else.

Oh, I agree with that. Don't mistake me for saying, "Hey, SE, go hog wild with the mount system!" -- chocobos need to stay on the throne. I simply think it's a profound gesture for SE to say, "Hey, thanks for having faith in us and investing money into our project after such hardship already harmed our business relationship." by breaking that chocobo tradition.

I sincerely hope that the rest of the game revolves entirely around chocobos and magitek machina ... but for this one time only exception, I think being battle hardened during the apocalypse earns us the right to tame some more badass beasts of burden.

Again, I just think it's very deep that they'd consider giving us this option, I'd accept it humbly. After accepting it humbly, I'd spend most of my 2015 running nilly willy through areas threatening to have my horselizard eat the bird-riders, sure, but that's irrelevant.
