I don't think OP is saying anything along the lines of "no one can disagree ever!" I think they are trying to say, if you disagree, that's fine, but disagree politely. You don't need to be overly condescending or rude to disagree with someone.

Attack the argument, not the person making it. Least that's how I interpreted it.

Hire a competent moderation staff, and you'll see the vitriol vanish overnight. In before I'm banned for simply stating the obvious.

Also this, preferably a staff that doesn't apply scorched earth tactics and suspends a bully and the people defending themselves politely from said bully.

i got depressions from the forum community. i just can't handle healing and dpsing. after 3 years of playing healer main and almost another year as secondary class i still can't handle that. i never will. reading healers who don't dps are "bad" and "lazy" and much more less friendly words has caused that i just can't play healer anymore. i really loved playing a healer, it was the whole reason i started FFXIV in the first place: to be a White Mage.
but not being able to meet the expectations, always thinking "this is not enough dps, push for more!" removed not only all fun i had, but also turned me into a mental wreck. okay, that's not true, i had social anxiety already before i started FFXIV, but this community made it even worse.
i know nice people ingame, who are telling me i don't have to dps, that it's okay to just heal. but it's in my head. i know that it's not okay, i know you call me bad and lazy and whatnot. i just can't stand it anymore. i switched to DRK a year ago, but the 4.0 changes to the DRK gameplay made me reconsider to play the WHM again. also the removal of cleric should make dpsing easier, right? noo... no, i just can't handle it. now i am considering to quit the game. but of course that will not happen... so i am sitting here with depression and don't know what to do...

We had something similar crop up a few days ago with someone being really badly affected by the stuff going on here. I'd like to recommend you look into getting some counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, or dialectical behavioural therapy. It does seem like there's some deep-rooted issues that could do with the help of a professional to extract and learn to manage. Because it sounds like your depression is triggered by perfectionism (which I am also a perfectionist and receiving CBT for). It really can help, so please don't be afraid to give it a try!

EDIT: Now that I think about it, dialectical behavioural therapy doesn't sound like it'd be helpful to you, but counselling or CBT remain very valid options. Like I said, I'm getting CBT because I suffer with very similar issues to you (but they don't affect me so much in-game). It will be challenging yes, but it WILL get better if you try your best.

Well, I don't know, OP.

First, I feel like people forget how insignificant the boards entire population is compared to the actual players. That doesn't make the points made here any less valid sometimes, but overall people tend to see what's being said as universal truth when they're just opinions, really. Sadly, as shown before (and above, apparently), some players take things said here way too seriously, and way too hard...

Second, over all the recent topics I've read, I've seen many "what about -----" topics. And the most common response is one you didn't mention, with varying range of politeness from the author:

"You should know that ---- has been discussed and rejected already."

Apparently over the existence of FFXIV ARR, nearly every feature has been thrown to the devs, with the results being either "Nah we can't, it's technically impossible" and "We could but we'd have to redesign the entire thing from scratch, we can't do that".

I struggle with this as well. I come to the forums because I do get helpful information here, and because the threads that don't devolve into savagery can have some fruitful discussions. I improved my DPS based on an off-hand comment someone made on a thread. I'm grateful for it. But I too suffer from social anxiety, and the way people talk to eachother here can be awful. I think, though, that it might just be because it's a forum and that's par for the course. You're right to observe that most people you meet in game are much nicer and less critical (with exceptions). Keep up the good fight!

Probably setting myself up for (another) ban here but I'd have to wholeheartedly agree with this. Something I've noticed is bans seem to be dealt out based on report volume more than based on actual offenses commited.

The casuals/raiders/people who play the game differently than me in any way are playing the game WRONG! They are carebear/elitist/blanket label scum, and they deserve all the hate they get and more. I will not rest until each and every one is driven off the forums and/or quits the game forever. I will also scream as loud as I can for the devs to make changes to make their style of play impossible. Failing that, I will claim to speak for the devs themselves and smugly claim to know what they intended and why the offending group isn't doing that and should stop what they're doing immediately and do what I want them to do, the way I want them to do it.

Also, if I see a thread talking about an issue i want to talk about, I will not post in it. Instead I will make a new thread about the same thing, because I am the one that should be the OP. I am special, and my voice is the one that deserves to be heard above all else.
