How much of 1.0 can we even trust at this point? With so much of it retconned and retooled for 2.0, I take all 1.0 storybeats and characters with a grain of salt.

Everything from Y'shtola being an apparent bamf with the Echo in 1.0 to the entire Circle of Knowing being Echo-less in 2.0 to Estinien suddenly not having stone grey skin as he did in 1.0 at his reappearance.... So much 1.0 stuff was just dropped.

Personally, I like the Yda switch to Lyse. Lyse's lack of knowledge, impulsive nature, and Papalymo's frustration with her misunderstanding so many things the rest of the Circle had no issue with always raised red flags. She felt like Pap's apprentice at times.

Then it turns out she basically was, and the story behind it is a hell of a lot better than "Yda's just a super ditz."

It's funny you say that but sorry to burst that bubble, 1.XX does exist. It's even written into FFXIV's Lore History. Whether people want to accept it or not, we wouldn't have ARR if 1.0 never existed.

I liked the reveal that the Yda we know has actually been Lyse all along. It makes sense for the character than Yda's an airhead with the no attention span. Remember that the members of the Circle of Knowing are all Sharlayan Archons. The thing is that all Archons are (or are supposed to be) academics. Being an Archon seems to be like being a scientist. Yda was constantly lost when the conversation reached highly technical levels, which if she was a true Archon she would have been able to follow.

As for Papalymo's death, it was unfortunately necessary to develop Lyse. When Lyse was being Yda, she was constantly following Papalymo's lead. Losing Papalymo means that Lyse now has to stand on her own and decide for herself. She has to grow up now.

I miss the dynamic that Yda and Papalymo had (I legit thought they were a couple when I first met them in game), but I'm not unhappy with the direction in which the story has

Thank you for posting the link! I had never seen the 1.0 intros and I've got to say Yda, I mean Lysa, and Papalymo had me laughing all during their cut scenes. It makes me wish we had seen more of that in ARR and beyond.

The 1.0 intros were fantastic Limsa and Gridania were always my favorite.

We have never met Yda. The 'Yda' you encountered in the very first cutscene for Gridania back in 1.0 was Lyse all along. Yda died years before the WoL enters the story. The nature of 'Yda's' mask has been a very conspicuous mystery ever since 1.0 so I actually think the Yda/Lyse switch was planned all along since the very beginning.

But the Yda in the echo portions of the 1.0 Gridania story is the real Yda, Yda died 6 years before the calamity, 1 year before the "current time" of 1.0, any echo flashback older than 1 year featuring Yda is the real Yda.

Yes. Everyone is well aware ARR wouldn't have happened if 1.0 wasn't such an disaster.

The problem is while so much of 1.0's story remained canon, every bit as much was retconned, removed, and cannibalized for 2.0 onwards.

Unless you have the direct lore book references and hard confirmation from CURRENT 2.0 and onwards information, it's unreasonable to say, "Yes, this absolutely still applies to the world and story."

There has not been one mention of Greenwrath in 2.0 and on, yet that was at the core of Grid's early story line.

Honestly, if you look at things now, you can clearly see 1.0 details that started after Yoshi-P took charge remained, while everything prior is a vague mess of "is this still canon?"

Actually there is a mention in a post 60 LTW quest, and I recall reading in these forums that the calamity weakened the elementals, so 5 years later it's no wonder the fear of the greenwath was diminished.

Post level 60 on LTW of all things is pretty hardcore, lol.

The weakening of the elementals was our best theory as to why Greenwrath is no longer a widespread threat. It makes sense considering much of the shroud was razed in the Calamity, but their isn't even a hint of flavortext referencing despite many citizen's unease with adventurers.
