People die, it's the cycle of life. You can't expect everyone to be immortal because you love them.

Plus, 1.0 and 2.0 are supposed to be considered as 2 different game, even if the universe stay the same. People should stop being so attached to the past and go forward. 1.0 is gone, all the team in charge of it is gone.
