I imagine that while, in theory, there should be a small war for the Nadaam every year that, in practice, there are times when the dominant tribe had no competition and just claimed the circle. We only saw the Oronir and the Dotharl show up to fight us and our Mol allies. The other tribes didn't show up, and for good reason: in a land where attrition to a tribe is near constant, why get a few of your warriors killed in a battle you will lose? The Nadaam we fight in is special because there is an actual attempt by two major tribes to grab the prize. This actually helps us because the Dotharl and Oronir are fighting each other while we make our way to the circle.

I know one Mol scout said that he would try to dissuade or prevent other tribes from attacking but I can't say I believe this effort would have bore much fruit if the other tribes were more than just interested in trying.

Frankly, this frame seems a more rational way to view the Nadaam as it is a stable system tribes can plan around. If your tribe has suffered heavy losses then you can plan to participate in the Nadaam in seven or so years.

Then again, what is the point of the Nadaam again? Would the winning tribe normally get Azim Khaat as their own stronghold and would the losing tribe be expected to just vacate? I know the Mol did not seek such because they go where their Elder Gods tell them to and so they would not wish to be tied down. It's also not a good idea at all to get on the bad side of the Oronir when you are as small a tribe as the Mol so this way there are no hard feelings. But this would normally not be an issue since the winning tribe is often expected to be powerful enough to enforce their right to Azim Khaat if needed and the losing tribe would have been left too weak to resist following defeat.

Oh no... I apologize. I didn't mean that it LOOKS like Sadu might be into the WoL, but I meant that I THINK they might make a great pair (I play as a male WoL) and she MIGHT be interest considering they would get along with the same interests. I'm not saying there's anything hinted at all in the game, just something I'm thinking up considering her personality and interests. They again it's true she might not want to spend time with the WoL as they need to oversee their village.

Just saying it would be interesting if Sadu did indeed liked the WoL.

Glad to see you like Yugiri as well. I imagine when Yugiri is feeling down after trying to help her fellow Doma and my WoL cheered her up it was an event that made them closer and Yugiri liking them more. Just my wishing thinking.

I have a hard time with Sadu being his moon for the fact that the trope of "genuine violence, hate, and vitriol is clearly sexual tension" makes me ill.

Oh in the end I dont want his character to change because its nice to have someone like him in the game and I like all the different cultures of the Xaela and would not want to change them. I just believe that he wont find a woman that will put up with him if he does not change his behaviour thus he will probably stay solo for the rest of his life. Cirina seems to be in love with Hien and Yugiri is also more about "I will stay and do everything for my master". Also I am not sure if Yugiri would ever give up her job as a ninja to stay with Magnai for the rest of her life.

What I found interesting about Magnai is that when a woman rejects him, he's like, "Oh, okay. *sadface*" Cirina told him flat out that he was wrong. I can't imagine Lyse was all that diplomatic when he suggested that perhaps she was his Moon. And then there's Sadu, who publicly rejected him in a way that involved arcane fire--and when his second starts to trash-talk her, Magnai shuts him down hard. I like him because for all of his arrogance, he's clearly a romantic at heart.

I just wonder what happens if he ends up with Sadu, who is the head of her tribe. I don't see her stepping down, or the Oronir and the Dotharl joining forces.

Are they considered taboo in all cultures/across all races though?

So far as I can remember (which may be surprisingly little, lol), the only place where crossbreeds were really confirmed to be taboo was in Ishgard with Elezen/Hyur offspring (Hyur in general were shunned in Ishgard), in the case of the whole "your mother was a Sea Wolf" "insult" amongst the Hyur, and then Garlean with... anyone that isn't Garlean, lol. Are there other pairings that are shunned specifically? I feel like maybe this was addressed too in a lore panel or something I'm forgetting about...

There's the gay Hyur/Miqote couple in Wanderer's Palace Hard who mention that they've been shunned by both their respective races for the interracial dating, not because they're both male.

I never got that impression from Sadu, she always seemed more interested in talking tough and proving what a badass she is. Frankly, she might see little use lavishing a wandering adventure with her attention considering how tied down she is in her home region.

My headcanon is that she's pretty impressed by my Xaela WoL. Even if he is from a tribe that doesn't even bother to come inland for the Nadaam, he's a big, strong good-looking (well, I think so ) guy who is now the khagan. Of course, since he's still in mourning for Haurchefant, she doesn't stand a chance.

He also notes though that Cirina is a warrior and finds that attractive in her. THE CONTRADICTIONS! (Plus if any of the ships are to have any weight, *cough*MagnaixSadu*cough*, he's gonna end up with a warrior anyway. :P Warriors can be ethereal too! >:r )

He also states in the end, if you talk to him after the cutscene, that the real reason he chose not to hold the WoL over Lyse was because we had better control over our "rage" and she risked ruining their attempt at gathering intelligence on the Dotharl.

THERE IS HOPE FOR THE WOL YET!
