at the moment the main reason for the mount's are to get you from A to B as fast as you can without using anima. i don't understand your view of cartoony. the game is final fantasy just coz something is not realistic don't make it out of place in this game

i don't really mind either way it will be nice to have something that shows i was here before 2.0 and a mount is the most visible way. but i can understand ppl not wanting to ride mobs

There's a difference between believability and realism. Compared to the current tone of the game, riding Ahriman and Goobbues is way too ridiculous to fit in with the rest - it's not believable. I guess that's what he means with cartoony.

Anyway, I actually like the beastmaster idea as well, that sounds reasonable enough. But something's telling me that it's not what they have in store for us at all.

in a fantasy world. in any final fantasy, the player is only restricted by the imagination of the dev that create the content. if some1 had told you a year ago that a rock is going to fall from the sky and change th whole game as you know it. would this not have sounded ridiculous? i'm sure if we get mob mounts there will be lore to tie it in with the game

It's completely different to that, lol.

Even by Nickelodean standards, riding on a freaking Gobbue's head is cartoony.

Not really. All good fantasy worlds are based upon some kind of internal logic that explains how and why things work the way they do. You can put the most awesome-looking elements inside a fantasy world, but if the audience doesn't perceive the world as convincing - as real, if you want - it's worth nothing.

You (almost) never want to mix and match styles, that's true for the art design as well as for story and content. Needless to say, riding flying eyes does not work all to well with the current image of Eorzea. It might work with what they have in mind for 2.0, but that's another story. A story I probably don't want to experience...

I think they are pretty cool. I would like however to see some more original ideas for new mounts. Not just mobs we have killed. But I still freaking love the mob mounts I hope they are just like the Chocobos.

what ^ efrye said! I might not play when 2.0 comes out. I might not like the game/story/lore. But getting there is going to be a FUN experience.

I'm honestly really against mounts other than chocobos.

The entire purpose of Chocobos are domesticated birds meant to be transportation. If an adventurer had a choice between a domestic bird or a fire-breathing drake, what do you think they're going to choose?

Riding monsters makes no sense either, they're damn MONSTERS. A dodo, maybe. Anything non-aggressive. But an Ahriman? A Voidsent mob? Yeah, I'm sure one will be just fine with you sitting on its back.

Realistically, I'm sure there will be an explanation and a process you have to go through in order to obtain these monster mounts, but I'm still not happy about it. Any "mount" in FFXIV can be done with a chocobo. Need a flying one? Black chocobo. Swimming one? Blue. The groundwork is laid out for it already, and it just feels like they're cheapening the value and impact of mounts in general, especially Chocobos by letting you ride monsters. It's just going to end up being a novelty.

I know that there's really nothing we can do to stop this from being implemented, and from the looks of things in the poll (not like these things are an accurate reading at all anyway) most people seem to like this idea, so I guess I'm in the minority. Oh well, I can always hope that they'll decide against implementing it.
