Hijacking the thread somewhat (because who needs private messaging in a forum?!), how do you like Yojimbo? I was thinking of transferring over and it would be good to know what it is like in advance. Are there enough people to do the big FATEs with despite it being a small server? Hoping to majorly decrease my ping, hence the transfer, but I'm used to big server life

I love Yojimbo and would never leave, but it's definitely a huge change from a big server - I was briefly on Masamune first and that was very busy so there's a noticeable difference. Current content (e.g. Ixion right now) is fine and you'll easily fill parties, but if you play at non-peak times you might struggle with open world content. I only cleared Coeurlregina for the first time this week after a lot of attempts previously because my groups always ended up too small to get her down in the time limit and Odin has had the same issue more than once. A and S rank hunts are very popular during peak times but often surprisingly challenging outside of those windows when you just have a handful of people scrabbling to get a decent spread of jobs for the party. And PVP queues are very long across the whole Gaia group as soon as you hit late night. If you keep normal waking hours you'll be ok.

In terms of server culture, it's quite laid back overall but we have had a minor influx of returnees and new players lately (due to the incentives no doubt) and non-Japanese speakers have become more common all of a sudden. I witnessed someone complaining in the novice network the other day when a new player asked a question in Japanese because they couldn't read it and apparently thought the world revolved around them! Most of the veteran non-speakers keep to their own communities and are polite, though, so there isn't any awkward friction between play styles like there often was in FFXI.

Overall I love the place, and it's funny when you're in a DF group and people ask for your server. "Yojimbo?! Was there a server with that name? I've never heard of it!" is the usual reaction. If you want a bit more activity then in honesty a slightly bigger server is probably more exciting, but if you end up on Gaia one day I hope it will treat you well (I will forever remember you as the Tonberry omrice guy, though). And you'll never, ever have a problem finding a house. We can't even give them away.

Might be worth making some alts to test out some of the Japanese servers? You can usually get a feel for the place very quickly, even as a newbie.
