I also played an Elvaan back on FFXI and love the Elezen race... ELEZEN FOR LIFE!!!
Seriously though, Hyur Male with mustache is one of the most awful looking models I've ever seen and yet, tons of people create these toons it seems. I just don't get it.
Not really. I've made a female Au ra through retainer and they do quite frankly look the same. Same with miqote. I've tried to make one look different from the general people that play them and nope it's pretty impossible. That's because those two races have very distinctive features easy to set apart at a simple glance. An elezen face has basically all normal human features excluding the ears.
Youre most likely being unconsciously biased, specially by comparing your own character's face with other Elezens and since you don't really seem to care too much about the other two races not really paying too much attention to them. Not to blame, mind you.
I love Elezen faces, they are definitely the most beautiful ones. If it wasn't for their long necks, I'd probably play one...Their long legs, however, are amazing and pretty.
They can keep their proportions in general, but a shorter neck would make a huge difference.
Maybe it's just me but... people think Elezen have an odd running gait, I'd say it's the male au ra who have the derpiest running animation of them all by farJust my own perspective and personal opinion.
Funny, I've tried making an Elezen and run into the exact same problem. Small world we live in, right? That's kinda the point people are trying to make to you: we all have a bias.
Anyyyway, judging from all the posts since I've last checked, it seems pretty clear: most of the people (keyword: most) playing their respective races are the ones that actually enjoy them as we got them (for the most part), and those who aren't and are wishing we had different designs...aren't playing those races. Not surprising :P Personally I think the Elezen are kick-butt as they are and super pretty, just wish there were more faces. I also find it super interesting that there's a crowd clamoring for more "beast-like" or non-human races, yet here in this thread there's a group wanting to make Elezen look more human, but with elf ears. Just goes to show you can't please everyone.
I agree with this.
Since all races have to move with the same walking and running speed, the taller and leggier options have slower, high-stepping gaits in their animations to compensate.
Au Ra males have a bit of a hop to their run as a result. Elezen bring their knees up. Roes just move a bit slowly.
Conversely, Lalafell look more like Sonic the Hedgehog with how fast they move their legs. It's like 4 steps for them is one step on a Roe.
Fair enough then. I mean it took me a long time to get the character creation done for my character but maybe that's because i'm meticulous with these things. I love playing as an elf and i'd welcome the change to hyurelezen if we ever got the chance to make them that way as I already said. But I will admit the CC is extremely lacking in this game.Funny, I've tried making an Elezen and run into the exact same problem. Small world we live in, right? That's kinda the point people are trying to make to you: we all have a bias.

Elezen are quite disproportionate, basically elezen = yaoi anatomy.
It takes a while to get used to, and certain clothes accentuate that even more, to the point that it is best to avoid them altogether unless you want to achieve that SnK titan aesthetic. You learn to love it or hate it forever, no way around it.
Generally speaking, for male elezens the "golden rule" is using long or half sleeves, because short sleeves or sleeveless tops without a long glove will make your arm length pop... in the wrong way.
Female elezen look good IMO but need hats or haircuts with volume, because their heads look incredibly small on their bodies.
The long necks can be "hidden" a little by using chokers, ribbons or collars that add bulk at the base of the neck.
A lot of Duskwight characters I see around my server seem to have dark skin tones, mostly in soot gray or blue hues. A lot of them might just be level 30 bonus characters tough. Not that there's many of us to begin with, most elezen around seem to be Wildwood.
Edit: Before anyone can get the wrong impression and point it out, I love elezen, play as one and would not have this race any other way. I simply wished to state that elezen proportions are an acquired taste for the majority of people, and certain deliberate glamour choices can help people get used to them over time.

It's very hard for me to find my double. I must change my looks at least 2 or 3 times a month....And, just wanna throw this out there, I haven't seen any Au Ra who looks super close to what my character looks like yet. Even when my character was a Miqo'te I very rarely saw other miqos who looked too similar to her, even though I would see a lot of them with a similar face but the coloring would always be WAY off from hers and the eyes would almost always be different than the ones I'd pick.
