EDIT: Not to attack you or your view or troll or anything, but I've wanted to ride a drake since day one and for them to even entertain the idea of giving me lalafell-sized, armor-scaled, fire-breathing ferret transport (Yes. I think they look like carnivorous, reptilian ferrets) makes me /cheer with glee. Eorzea's drakes make consummate battle-mounts.

I think the whole thing was pretty informative. I mean, it's a bit of a cock-tease in terms of how much they tend to *hype* the letters versus the actual information we get, but it's very good nonetheless. Plus, riding on a Gobbue? Moogles? Crowns? Player housing possibly BEFORE 2.0? Level cap increase? Paying monthly for this game is completely justifiable now, in my opinion.

Problem? How many people did you know by the end of FFXI who had a rabbit belt? Or even the red specs that distributed fireworks? Harpsichord? It's not like a Speed Belt where at first they're extremely rare and over time they're easier to get. This is one time only.

The whole concept of FTP games is BUILT on the logic that cheap, popular things that are only available for a time eventually become insanely expensive collector's items that come with the message that "THIS PLAYER HAS BEEN HERE." It's a status symbol.

Is that illegitimate just because it's common AT FIRST? Throwing these things into a P2P MMO from time to time is good for player morale and makes some people go apeshit for the opportunity. I know I would...

It's fine. Honestly, I have my anti-troll shield equipped around here 24/7. xD So I understand.

But really, it's only going to be as rare as the dev team allows it. Really, I think it would be interesting to have each mount given to you depending on how much you accomplished throughout the game before 2.0 or something, that way each mount will be unique or something along those lines.

Yes, know that they are considered as possible rewards for playing pre-2.0.

Large volumes of players who ride around on Drakes, etc.. (which will be roughly 75% of the current gaming population if polls are any indication) will make this game more like your fly-by-night, run-of-the-mill MMO than a Final Fantasy Game.

My concern is that what might seem extremely cool for your character, will become very silly once you see everyone doing it. This is the thinking behind the primal summoning process that Yoshi-P proposed, and I wish that it also would apply to the mounts as well.

Chocobos and Magitek are fine, and fit the lore.

I would rather they use those animations for a Beastmaster. It makes far more sense to have a Job who specializes in taming those creatures and using them for mounts.

If he were saying, "We're adding monster mounts! Just do this quest!" I'd agree, but I think your concerns are unfounded. Most of the people who tried XIV already are gone; a lot who are playing now won't be paying for it (and remember, the forum polls only apply to people who like the game enough to hang out on its FORUM to begin with, skewing the results upwards), and then we have all of the people who were waiting for PS3 and/or don't have a computer capable of running it.

In the long-term, these mounts will be rare; and because FINAL FANTASY = CHOCOBO (or maybe magitek), I don't think it will look silly, I think it will say, "Wow, what the hell did THAT guy do to be able to tame THAT? ... Oh, survived the apocalypse? Well now!"

In 2015~2018 that'll mean something totally different than for that time in 2013 when it was commonplace. Again, when was the last time you saw a pair of Red Eyes or a Rabbit Belt or a Harpsichord? I don't think most players have ever even SEEN some of that, especially the Harpsichord mog house decoration.
