I can't agree more with the Protect/Esuna/shroud they should def. be required in my opinion without them it can just cause matters to get worse lol. Personally I don't have clerics on my bar, and I've keep Largesse for the fact that alone of selfish healers dpsing.I know what you mean, since the "optional" (yeah just kidding more like required) roles skills like protect, esuna and shroud, (yes i am calling it that still) we dont have much choice, we need swift and as a whm i grabbed divine seal... ehem.
So i lost on eye for an eye and clerics, as a general rule for myself, if whole party needs esuna, priority goes to me first, then casters, then melee, if the other heal hasnt dealt with their debuff, they are not worth my mp since whm lost the 20% chance to cost 0 mp with esuna too.
Just carry on dpsing as you would as healing, just keep the tank alive imo, and ignore the other healer if they get hurt xD

I see what you're saying, and I respect that, but the way it's been playing out it's come down to not being a team effort. In almost everyone of the farm parties I've had in the past two weeks the other healer hasn't been healing to the point where if I was down, they wouldn't heal the party, or even raise me. It's as if they refuse to heal, and at that point is when I ask is that really a team player? Wouldn't I be better off solo healing and replacing them with an actual dps at that point? That's my biggest problem, when they refuse to heal, and I've been running into this 9/10 nowYep, it really is a matter of opinion lol. For me anything I find personally fun and engaging in regards to personal play style is thrown out the window and irrelevant in a group situation. It's nothing but business for me in a group situation. I want to win, not argue, so I'm totally okay with slipping into full healer mode on a seconds notice.

AST's high healing output and relatively low DPS potential makes it suited to the main healer role. That said, communication is, as always, key. At the beginning, just ask your cohealer if they're OK with you focusing on DPS and leaving the smaller healchecks to them.
Well this is just bad healers being bad. Like any other role... ignore it, kick, or whatever. In almost everyone of the farm parties I've had in the past two weeks the other healer hasn't been healing to the point where if I was down, they wouldn't heal the party, or even raise me. I had begun to notice early into SB that Astro seemed to be the better healer in a sense, which I'm perfectly fine with. I just have an issue with the other healers who refuse to play their job. A White Mage isn't a green DPS, and if I die I expect you to raise me or top off the party, and not continue on with your dps. I love healing though and I highly doubt this will make me stop healing, but I'd like to bring the issue up lolUnfortunately you're an AST and they are kinda the 'main healer' right now. WHM only really brings a deep mana pool and personal DPS to the group at the moment and SCH is still trying to find it's kneecaps after it's brush with the nerf bat.
Also I always go into a DF group with the outlook that the other healer has firmly secured their pants to their head. Normally I am pleasantly surprised to find the opposite is true but then there are those times I am right...

As a healer AST, I still DPS when if I can, and I don't have cleric stance either, nor rescue, I haven't done any of the new extreme trials yet, so I may be out

It is simple, if I am a WHM (which is normally your co healer), my DPS beats yours by a mile. I have oGCD's of greater reliability than yours for emergency ST healing.
So given that...why should you NOT be main healing?
EDIT: I do not take Cleric either. Waste of space.

You sound abit offended with what I'm saying, and It seems like you're using a somewhat weak argument to frame this by. There's no such thing as "snipping" a heal, you're a healer first and a dps second. Going by your logic, why don't I just keep the party topped off and bring and extra dps, a Rdm/Smn can easily bring me a backup res. and contribute to group wide dps more than a White Mage can.

If you possess the skill, sure, why the hell not do that. You sound abit offended with what I'm saying, and It seems like you're using a somewhat weak argument to frame this by. You might even be able to skip some really annoying mechanics if your DPS are good.
