I was gonna say the same in an edit. But, trying to sleep before servers come up and just wanted to throw out my gut reaction. But, in all likelyhood I doubt winners would get more I think that would drive more ppl away from dungeons.
Checking on this now. Between the adjustment for time spent in PvP, and the differences in win/loss, this could be a net bonus or a huge nerf. If it's the later, we're back to being niche.
It's a 200k difference about from what I was earning before the patch. (at level 67 I was doing around 750k, a loss was about 560k).
... I'm not happy with the philosophy behind this. I think rewarding victory is better than penalizing defeat, and this is exactly penalizing defeat. However, this sits directly on the line for me tolerance wise.
The nerf will hurt PvP's reputation, but the degree of which may not be to the point of cutting it out of circulation. I do expect some salt on this though. I also don't think this will address any issues players were having with PvP, at all. So this amounts to a nerf, not a fix. People will simply tolerate the nerf and do what they were always doing before.

I just hope losing isn't too low of an experience. It just might resort to people throwing once they fall a certain amount behind to end things more quickly.

I can admit when I'm wrong.
A week or so ago, I would've thought a nerf to XP would be a great way to solve the AFK/coasting problem, but after reading a lot of the reactions here and on reddit, I can see why that might not be the case. More concerning than that though is how I feel when playing PvP now. I just got out of a match and, granted that's the only match I've played since the update, but I realized how concerned I was with winning. Don't get me wrong, I always tried to win before the update, but it wasn't as...stressful? I guess is the right way to put it? I was able to relax and have fun.
Now, however, I was just sitting there cursing under my breath the entire time at every little mistake my team made, complaining about this or that job being OP, etc. Again, it was only one match, but the point is i no longer felt like I was having fun because I was so focused on winning so I could get the full reward.
I don't mind losing in and of itself, but again, now I feel like when I lose, I'm missing out on the full reward. And not only that, but also I feel like it's going to make me view my team more harshly any time I see someone making a really obvious mistake like jumping into the entire enemy team all by themselves with little to no backup around.
Long story short, I already don't like my mindset when playing PvP now and it makes me want to play it less because I realize I'm just going to be a Negative Nancy the whole time and no one, including me, wants that. I'm speaking entirely for myself though. I realize other people may feel differently and might not have this problem at all.
I can see this killing pvp que times quite hard. Being in last place will be worse EXP then a Palace of the dead run or fate grinding.Bard lvl 63 - daily duty roulette frontline first place

The AFKers will still be there since they are getting free XP. This fixes nothing other then pissing off people actually playing.
Second and Last Place don't differentiate exp. Anyone below first place is penalized equally it seems.
As I said before, this does nothing but discourage players form playing. It's not hard enough of a nerf to stop people. But there will be a lot of salt. This hurt people who where needing this to get past the DPS queue times. This also hurts newer players who are interested in PvP - making it less worthwhile for them to do what they love (PvP) because it takes away from effort time they need for the rest of the game.
And 2/3rds of the players get nerfed exp. It's not incentive to win so much as penalty for lost, which only hurts the players who were putting in effort, for they can't manage a win if someone in their group is afking. And reporting/kicking doesn't work the way it should for PvP. There should not be a 5 minute kick delay.

updated, and yeah second/third place gives the same exp, but third place gives less pvp exp and wolf marks
the main issue here is that bots and afk players are going to afk in 150 matches instead of 100 ...so thats 50 matches + active players have to endure ....
