Lets strip away all potencies on tanks just slap on enmity instead. Because tanks should just take the hits and hold aggro right? What a fun way to play! All we ever hear is "I'm not doing good DPS anymore" that is why str accessories are a thing. Not because of emnity (thread title, not what I'm saying), because of dps. the only valid complaints currently are the lack of fluidity for DRK and WAR, DPS should NEVER be a valid point of concern for a tank class, unless it gets in the way of completion of solo duties.
And 90% of the complainers are WAR's, wonder why. (Not specifically calling you out, I have friends in game who play WAR bitching their DPS sucked)
So what is my greataxe/greatsword/longsword for?
You know something is wrong when the only reason most people can come up with to play tanks is 'fast queues'. Speaks volumes of the design of tanks in this game when their only merit is a result of their severe unpopularity.
This is actually a really, really good point oddly for the "tanks should just tank" argument. That's fine and dandy but there still needs to be fun involved with the job or else it'll ironically just feel like a job/chore.
Like i said, fluidity of the job itself, emnity issues, inability to perform role functions. If the job is no longer "fun" that is an issue. if the job is no longer "fun" because "mah deeps" I dont see that as a valid concern. I'm not saying WAR doesn't have issues right now, I'm saying DPS shouldn't be the issue everyone is complaining about, and that is why STR accessories is silly.
The whole Tank only runs of Savage is where the mechanics of the jobs broke the game. No other role can do this, especially while a tier is still "current".
70-80 percent makes more sense, since one of the stats are always higher be it primary or secondary.I also agree with 1:1 being fine - just saying that I'd be OK with 80%. All your other points are correct.
I'll toss in that I personally don't find it rewarding for more of my health bar to be left over after a tank buster. It's nice, but I'd rather see my damage numbers go up over the course of the expac instead.
Tank damage was fine in 3.5 imo. Now they've nerfed us into the ground. It's just less fun to do lower damage. Why do you think DPS is the most played job?

Well thats not what i said. Doing damage, and complaining you arent doing huge amounts of damage are 2 completely different things now, aren't they?
I mained PLD all the way up through the end of 3.0, yet I never once made a thread on the forums complaining my job was shit and SE needed to fix it. They screwed up the fluidity of WAR, but the rest, meh. Also I'm out of posts for the day. Have fun o/

If we apply this logic to the current tanks then we clearly have an imbalance. WAR for example provides the least amount of utility and only got offensive abilities in 4.0. By that logic shouldn't it be the highest in terms of dealing damage by a larger margin? Personally I don't mind having the dps between the tanks even but the fun of playing WAR in 3.0 outside of its ridiculous burst was helping the party via storm's path. Give war something to contribute to the party outside of aoe add burn phases. For example, among the proximity physics DPS, the dragon knight who raises the damage of the party member greatly, the damage by itself is lower than that of the samurai, and on the contrary the samurai has little support ability for party damage, so raises the damage alone There are differences such as. Also included in these considerations are the "ease of gimmick influence" and "whether you can attack even without approaching enemies" as mentioned above.
In comparison to PLD who can shield the whole party, heal, cover and block, WAR is underwhelming in that regard. Not counting the dps WAR just brings nothing spectacular to the table. Even DRK has a shield that it can toss to protect a party member. Either increase the dps of war or give it some utility. Don't nerf PLD.

Um... here's a thought. Use your DPS rotation, but don't complain about not being able to deal 4k+ dps? I mean, there's nothing wrong with trying to Max dps, but acting like dps is the only merit of any job makes me wonder why people even bother using those jobs in the first place.
Define "huge amounts." The best tank dps never encroached on a damage dealer of average ability following a basic rotation. To get out dps'd by a tank, you had to be the lowest of the low. And I doubt you'd have someone like that in your group, so seriously, what's the problem here?
