Did you just make up a magical number? Or are you basing this on published records. Ive been curious about an accurate count of the server population. I wish they hadn't taken out the search function. It was nice to get a gauge of how populated things were. Ive been looking around for accurate data lately myself.

True, it proves that having access to "millions" of players doesn't mean your going to get to see more action. Worst of all, the cross server party system was the final nail in the coffin of that community. Worst MMO communityPERIOD

Where did you get these numbers? Are they still available by any chance? It conflicts with what I had read a while back...
I read 112k global subscriptions about 6 months ago, and that was a released from SE in an interview.

The peak for the game was 1.2m subscriptions, and that was Toah with average daily activity at around 200k-300k(top end being weekends), also from data released by SE back in 2006. The closest match I could dig up was from Wikipedia, fortunately it was properly cited, so verifiable.

I just wish SE would be a little more upfront over their numbers, it seems like they try so hard to be completely vague and discrete about just about everything from subscriptions to game mechanics. It leads to so much misinformation and second guessing.

I personally don't care how many ppl over all are playing most ima see is 5K at most. And prob alot chat with 300-1K. Numbers don't mean much if your just on one server. And even the WoW has party issues, and ya WoW's community stinks. The company pretty much lets ppl on moon guard to go to goldshire and do/talk about xxx rated things in /say. Stuff that makes 2 girls 1 cup seem like childs play.

mmo are getting less and less about community and more on solo ability. The mmo ganre are starting to loose is purpose. And SE needs to really get thing back to where they should be.

MMo should only be as good as their communties. Bad community=bad game. Cuz what is an mmo w/o a community? just a game that just happens to be online.

I too know that a lot of people are waiting for the game to be released on PS3 or alternatively are patiently waiting for the game to improve. They have not stated they have given up entirely on the game, they have stated they will wait until it's worth playing. When it gets to that stage (and hopefully it will) for them, and when the PS3 version is released alongside a lot of revised reviews, then I expect suddenly the population will go through at least a temporary boom. It should be remembered that, if I am correct, this will be the only major MMORPG on a console. If you think that the number of gamers with a PC capable of running FFXIV effectively is anything remotely close to the number of gamers with a PS3, then you are very much mistaken.

At EoFF, roughly 2-3 people have recently enough stated that they still play the game now. An additional 10 or so have stated that they have played it but are waiting for improvements. Even more have stated that their PC can not handle the game very well if at all or that they are waiting for the PS3 release. This is a site focused on the entire FF series and tends to have a much lower number of MMO players than it has single-player fans, but despite that, I think the sample of the community there can show that there are a lot of people who are willing to play the game out there but simply can't or won't just yet.

    1) Once XIV goes PS3, there will be a large gap between PS3 and PC players - by merging you can have the PS3 users start fresh with their own peers while we continue on with our own peers
A: It is more positive to go in to a community that always has everything set up for you then it is to start fresh, this also allows an even spread among rank since there are a lot of mid-rank and a lot of people joining, the markets being filled with items, having higher ranks help out the noobs, which my LS does constantly etc...

    2) Keep current XIV players happy - we'd be playing in well populated worlds
As a result of (2), we'd be able to:
    A) Find groups
    B) Establish [friendly] rivalries between guilds for NMs, items, etc
    C) Find a LS that fits us well (social vs core vs German vs Japanese, etc)
    D) Feel like we're playing an MMO and not a single person RPG
    E) RP, for those who are into that
As everybody know, besaid is a higher populated server, but its outcome is not different from any other servers, I am from one of the smallest server (Istory) and even though it is in the processing of growing in numbers it is just as active (except for the rping...)

    3) RL gil - it'd be cheaper to run fewer servers
People do not seem to realize that big companies like SE has no troubles with money, they spend to make more

IMO, the more people on each server will mess up the game since we don't have a)enough mobs b)enough zone CoughUldahleveCough
Beside that, when SP3 released, the level cap will be increased. Mobs+Aeth already there

I feel the current server/player are fine

    that's my opinion ^.^

That is true, the server crowded with player will make no difference in that people will stay in Ul'dah, more benefit mean more people gather, and then Camp Broken Water will zone crash like when they first fixed the party SP during 1.15a >_>

One other Con to the separate server PC vs. PS3:
I have a few family members and friends who are waiting for PS3 so we can all play together.

You have all brought up very valid points, and therefore I forfeit the debate and admit defeat!
