The housing issue is a symptom of a much gr4eater problem. The way the game servers run are terrible. I know there's always going to be liitations but we are constantly being told that any more data and the servers just wont cope.

Other games, and much poorly run for that matter, manage to do the stuff that this game can't with even bigger inventories and they can do that in 'duties' too. Do the run the servers on PS3s? Those damn PS3 limitations.

We need a server reborn project as the current server state is utterly terrible.

The point is, housing is for people who play the game as their vacation, not go on vacation :P

In all seriousness, the problem with the housing is the same as the problem with people AFK'ing. People do not want to give up their spot. If you are a FC and your FC leader is not competent enough to pass leadership to someone else, then yes, FC house goes buh-bye.

I think you're missing the point. Other games are nearly always freemium games or adopt freemium "thug"-like motivations for wringing more money out of their players.

For example... Mabinogi and Archeage do this. If you want a house you have to pay subscription. After you have the house for like 30 days, it goes back on the auction and you have to buy it again, and again. In Archeage it's even worse, all the bots/hackers bought up the housing. Even Mabinogi had problems with players hacking their way into the housing area's that were not yet open and guilds buying the castle with RMT money before the housing area was available.

And in Archeage, it uses Ultima Online's model where you can build a house nearly anywhere in the field, so people are jerks and make sure that as few houses as possible can be built by making sure they rotate the house just enough so that nobody can build one between their house and the one beside it. Compare this to the person who buys a luxury car and takes 3 parking spaces by parallel parking across them.

FFXIV prioritizes data integrity. FFXIV to by knowledge has not had any kind of data hacking/breech since that RMT trim back in 2013. Yet they are still unable to stop teleporting bots.

Leaders don't need to pass it if they are gone long enough another FC memeber will be given leadership. Despite the FC leaders control of a FC house the house is treated as belonging to the entire FC, which is why all members can reset the timer.

Lotro, A DECADE AGO, launched with housing that works like the neighborhoods in this game, except they infinitely generate when they fill up. All of the houses of a certain type gone? A new ward appears.

I have no idea why FF14 can't do this.

actully mabinogi has 2 housing systems.

the 1st one is just a glorified MB system

and the other is an actual personal property system called Homesteads. and every one gets one for free pir character and you can do what you want with it.

Because LOTRO has a 1 per account per server limit. The fact that a game like LOTRO with a skeleton crew that has WAY less resources can do this and not FFXIV is one of the reasons why I don't buy Square's "Not enough resources" line for anything, like I said, this is SQUARE ENIX, not some indie company.

I'm actually surprised they haven't implemented property taxes...it would help fix the issue but be terrible at the same time. I just wish they would add dedicated housing servers...

Basically let people who can afford it pay IRL money for housing, like additional retainers. And in turn, make it easier for people who can't or don't want to spend IRL money to get get a house.
The "why" is the same reason the servers were mucked in early access. Even instances have their limits. Physics is a thing.

Should be able to tack on server space. Especially if instanced separately. It's usually just a matter of costs. Otherwise every business would just fail the second they started to expand, and their servers got clogged. -Lots- of other games managed to implement housing for everyone (or on-demand housing for IRL payment).
