romaji might be confusing at times but it should work fine.
When Japanese IME goes whack you cant type Japanese so seen some JP players talk in romaji till they figured it out.

+ in FFXIV you can use copy/paste so if you want you can copy my JP text and just fill in the (...) with auto translate or numbers, etc

Setting up the Windows IME, for those who know a little bit of Japanese but don't know how to get it into their computer. These directions are specific to Windows 7, but they should be similar on other versions of Windows. The IME has existed at least since Windows XP, and probably before.

    First: Enable Japanese language features.
    1. Open Control Panel.
2a. If in Icons view, open "Region and Language," and select the "Keyboards and Languages" tab.
2b. If in Categories view, open "Change keyboards or other input methods."
    3. Select the "Change Keyboards" button.
    4. A window will appear called "Text Services and Input Languages." Under "General" select "Add"
    5. Locate Japanese on the list, expand it, and check the box for "Microsoft IME"
    6. Press "OK"
    7. Move to the Language Bar tab.
    8. In the "Language Bar" panel, check either the "Floating On Desktop" or "Docked to the taskbar" option. This will ensure that your language bar is showing.
    9. Press OK to close the Text Services window.
    10. Press OK to close the Language and Region window.

Second: Typing in Japanese (these steps will have to be repeated each time you want to type in Japanese)
    1. Press and release Left alt+Left Shift (and no other keys) to switch into Japanese input mode.
    2. Press Ctrl+Capslock to switch from Alphanumeric input to Hiragana input.
    3. Type phonetically, as if in romaji. The IME should be converting your text to hiragana as you type.
    4. Press the spacebar. The IME will convert your message to what it thinks is the most likely kanji. If you know that it has converted correctly, skip ahead to step 7.
    5. If the IME has converted your kanji incorrectly or if you aren't sure, press the spacebar again. The IME will give you a list of possible interpretations of your kana.
    6. Navigate this list with the arrow keys and select with enter.
6a. If you don't know kanji, select your original hiragana from the list or press Escape. People will be able to tell what you mean (most of the time).
    7. Go back to step 3 to continue your message, or press enter to send your message.
    8. If you want to get out of Japanese mode and type in english again, Shift+Capslock will get you back into alphanumeric input, or alt+shift again to turn off the IME entirely.

Heard Google Japanese Input is also good IME replacement... got it working at work and it's nice that it picks up FFXIV terms like Aetheryte エーテライト from convert, dunno why but keeps on giving me error and wont let me install at home PC >< been looking for solution 2 days now lol. Before that been using Microsoft IME all these years.

Yeah I've been copy/pasting into/from Google Translate since I don't speak a lick of Japanese. I know the translations can be questionable, though.... It would probably just be easier for me to memorize certain romaji terms/phrases and type then out as long as they're understood. Thank you =)

And thank you for the information Misteyes.

How about the term used for binding to an Aetheryte. I believe it was something like デジョン登録?
    2 questions:
    1. Is that right?
    2. What language is デジョンtaken from. Don't believe it's an English word.

Have you found it to work correctly with XIV? I found that it wont display the suggested word window (へんかん) in the XIV Client, so switch back to MS for in-game purposes.

Oh yeah? is that what it is, heard ATOK and Google having problems in-game reading JP forums but I guess what you're saying is probably the problem. I don't use ATOK + still can't get the damn Google Japanese Input in the home Win7 PC (dunno why... keep on getting error) couldn't test it out. At home still using MS IME

デジョン is just magic spell Square Soft came up with when making Final Fantasy I think, it's not regular Japanese word either, everyone who plays FF (JP) knows it though lol. It was spell introduced from FF1 as instant death spell back then, but at other series became where you warp through dimensions. FF Wiki - http://goo.gl/7ENyA
