Every class is hard and every class is easy. No class in this game has ever had a rotation that is particularly difficult to learn or pull off. Different players have different strengths and different weaknesses. I spent 2 hours on my friends 311 SAM and was able to get top DPS on a susano EX by a decent margin in that time. I do however find it to be tedious to play. In 3.0 I found Dragoon to be the most difficult class to play simply because keeping blood of the dragon up felt more difficult then greased lightning or Huton, I could play all 3. I just personally found the mechanics on dragoon more difficult, many people disagreed with me and that's fine. Most difficulty discussions are subjective to the extreme especially in this game. There isn't really a quantifiable way to measure difficulty.

At the end of the day every classes skill cap will be higher then most of the people playing them reach so it doesn't really matter. A top 10% player of what ever the "easiest" class is will be miles above the an okay player on what ever the "hardest" is.

I don't think this can be stated enough. the difference between passable and good in this game is probably a bigger gap than any mmo i have ever played before.

    Can you qualify this please?

Because the class is based around maintaining those eyes (and the long buildup for them), you're not only punished greatly for making a mistake (letting BoTD drop, starting the entire process again), but you will be punished anyway even when you do everything right, when a boss decides to float away forcing you to drop it, or puts you in box with one of its mechanics forcing you to drop it.

DRG requires some thought to its rotation, when to use buffs etc. And LotD is a pain in the ass. Huuge buildup and is easily lost to boss mechanics. That DRG is supposed to be super easy and SAM of all classes hard (oh no two positionals) is a joke.

People saying sam is hard? Seriously?
Tell me how punished you get when making a mistake, like a drg or sam? Or tell me how many skills you have to use, compared to say, ninja? Or how you dont lose any resource by time and build them lightspeed, or is the absurd 2 positionals, wich doesnt reduce your damage by not doing correctly.
Sam are among the easiest jobs, followed by rdm, and im talking about mastery, sam skill floor and ceiling are pretty low.
I dont get, i think its just some elitism, bad news, sam its definetly one of the most played jobs from now on, but at least provide arguments why its hard.

Maybe you should actually level the job from base before saying it's easy? I'm not saying it's hugely difficult, but I've never felt it was any easier than Ninja.

    RDM main here.

I vote RDM as the easiest.

I'm thinking people who think DRG is easy haven't even leveled it.

SAM is an extremely easy class, here is why:

    - Straightforward mechanics.
    - Long duration self-buff (30s)
    - Long duration debuff (60s)
    - No RNG procs or resource generation, SAM always know his resource gains.
    - Spenders don't break any combo chain.
    - Good mobility with a charge and backstep.
    - It's really easy to recover from mistakes (Meikyo Shushi is an 80s CD skill vs 180s from Perfect Balance) or immune bosses.
    - Two positional attacks at the end of the combo chain.

And of course a good SAM is going to do much more than a bad one but this applies to any class.

It's Death Knights from WOLTK all over again, with pearls like "it's a heroic class, of course it must be more powerful than any other!"

IMO it's harder then new NIN but probably easier then 3.0 NIN,
Sam. feels, and lookes as the easyest dps. class by far. no one is as easy...mech. by far the hardest...and there you have top and bottum dps also just reversed...guess thers some logic in there i just dont see.
