They aren't required by law to relinquish the houses. It's courtesy and ethics now. Is it legal to own them all? Yeah. But there's this little thing called generosity that people are seeking...

If you give someone the ability to take everything then frankly given the power they will. The blame lays on Square for not limiting how many houses a person can have per server, if they did a 1 house and 1 fc house per account per server then we wouldn't be dealing with this mess in the first place will we?

No, no it is. As someone who routinely just checks houses (I love to peruse for new design ideas for my apartment!), most players have atrocious taste in design. I am not saying theirs is any better as I haven't really taken a look, but VERY few people follow a decent theme and instead through whatever guady thing they have crafted in their house.
