New to the game and curious about raids as DPS?

So as stated in the title I'm new to FFXIV but had every intention of going Dragoon. After reading several threads about how they are looking is it really going to be worth it to level it to 70 if they look like they are going to have no place in end-game raids? I likely still will level it since I enjoy the job and the armor looks great, but I guess I'm mostly asking to see if/what job's I should look into for end-game content?

dps rankings are all about 10% within each other and people still want dragoons for the good burst and the raid buffs to crit

No, dragoon in its actual state is bad, the raid dps it brings isnt enough, gap between ninja/sam and drg is too big.
Actual dps meta right now would be Ninja - Samurai - Red mage - Bard.

Nope nope don't listens to this team comp the nin and sam combo is a waste they both bring slashing debuff why take two? For that team comp I would replace the nin with a drg to bring piercing debuff to buff bard dmg.
In the game right now there are more physical dmg buffs than magic buffs.
Side note the only time the minor potency difference in dmg among the dps is during world first raiding and of course bragging.

God please stop talking about what you don't even understand.

Ninja is way better than DRG in every point, it's not a matter of bringing a debuff, the game isnt all about debuff.
Ninja has more dps, brings trick attack and has the inimity gestion which is really needed right now.
There's a huge gap between both, while ninja is actually the second strongest melee behind sam, DRG is the last one, it's underperforming so hard it's just bad, Brd dps is low too, 5% debuff is irrelevant against what ninja has to offer.

Now please, actually try to understand how things works before trying to teach people how they do.

    Lol 2nd best that's rich.

Nin has always had the least dps but the most utility among the melee classes.
Also about the enmity thing...drg can do that now too (I don't think every melee class should have gained access to that kind of skill nin kinda got screwed on that)

Back to the true point of the post.
OP there is truly no "worst or best class" ever class can do any content, in the end I would pick a class that you think looks or play's cool or fun. I mean it is a video game after all the point is to have fun right?

You're aware an extension hit, right?

Because Nin got a serious buff and is actually on par with Mnk dps, above Drg.
You can go check there's already logs for primals extreme.

    DRG: https://www.fflogs.com/rankings/15#b...l&spec=Dragoon
    NIN: https://www.fflogs.com/rankings/15#b...bal&spec=Ninja

Also for enmity, you got one role skill that reduce your own enmity. Nin don't need to use a role skill slot for that, can transfer 80% of his enmity to a tank for a while and can reduce someone else's enmity. He's far from being screwed with these skills, now more than ever.

Things is, right now DRG utility don't justify the ~200 dps gape with other melees. That being said, there's not a lot of player performing their job the best they can. I'd take a DRG that know what he's doing over someone that picked the "this season most broken job~" just because people told him to. All jobs should be able to clear raid content as long as everyone in your party is pulling their weight.

I say play what you want. Balance is in constant flux. What may one day be top dps could be bottom the next. So it's better to play something you enjoy than play something just for the numbers.

That said, I'm sure all the classes will be able to clear normal raids without issues. I cleared normal Alexander first day with a MCH back in HW and they we're terrible at the time.

Play as what you wish :3 most raid groups arn't to bothered by 'best comps' unless there attempting first world clears. long as you know your job and don't die to stupid and meld well with the team you should be fine.

As for the ninja/samurai/red mage being best options. We know there going to do balancing works...*single tear as I see my impending nerf* which could include a buff to dragoon. Seeing I expect some healer balances coming in and warrior getting some tweaks. all the jobs had some drastic changes which are going to be a bit here there and everywhere cause with as much testing they can do they don't know how we will feel and have enough pool of statistics to get a better idea of the performance. Now we are about 3 weeks in and with the first set of end game content coming I think the dev team will having some buffs and nerfs in mind.
