I think Myste might be an aspect of Fray, since according to the Lore Book, Fray's surname is Myste.

Nice catch, he DID look like the two of them combined.

So interesting, it's another thing that really stuck out to me with the drk storylines (specifically Fray and Myste) in it's similarities to Silent Hill 2, not the horror elements mind, but the fact that everything is draped in symbolism and representations of other things. The writer did a fantastic job with it.
Not to say I don't love the HW storyline for Drk, that (in my opinion) was more about what a dark knight is and the relationship it has to the rest of the world. Whereas the 30-50 and SB storylines were about exploring our character's psyche. Again, my interpretation, no one else's.

Well, both Fray and Myste are part of the Warrior of Light's psyche, so I'm not sure Myste is an aspect of Fray. They are both aspects of WoL. One the anger and annoyance at the ingratitude and burdens we bear, the other the regret we have for all the deaths we have seen, caused, or could not prevent.

I believe that an aspect of Fray's personality and memories were left in the soul crystal, and that he represents the anger and "negative" emotions of the WoL. This is from the way he acts and Sidurgu describes him.
No our darkside is simply taking on the form of fray because we wanted a "teacher" myste and "fray" is just apart of our psyche.

Sorry for taking so long to get to this, but between frequent 10 hour work days M-F plus 8 or so occasionally on Saturdays, and playing around with samurai swords, I just got there.
"Myste" is the embodiment of our guilt. Again and again he begs forgiveness for his (our) sins, and only finds a measure of peace after "Fray" grants it. He is the hidden part of our psyche that knows we kill people who deserved to live (circumstances notwithstanding) because it was necessary to prevent greater tragedy, but feels awful about having to do so and wishes to be absolved for his (our) crimes. Ystride, Livia, Rhitahtyn, Ilberd, the Warriors of Darkness and the Heavens' Ward... all good people (well maybe not Livia, Chairbert, and Grinnaux) who in better circumstances could have been allies and friends, cut down by none other than us, the "hero," because to not bloody our hands would lead to more death. We acknowledge that we will one day answer for our sins... but until that day comes, we can but carry on as the Weapon of Light.
Murder is a sin. Yet in taking one life, we can save dozens. A dozen for thousands. There's no honor or glory, but someone's gotta do it... after all, to walk this path is to suffer. To sacrifice. Justice demands no less.
Anyway, the final quest and (especially) fight was absolutely epic. Everything, from start to end. It was both amazing and poignant, much as I'd expect, and continues to endear me to the class as it's presented in XIV - not the derogatory "edgelord," but the most self-aware heroes to walk the land.
I march on Ala Mhigo on the morrow. Time to put an end to this!
This bit of information, along with looking at the final quest's name in the Achievement Log, spoils the big reveal for knowledgeable and savvy players. The real Fray indeed had the last name Myste, and "Myste"'s mysterious appearance would raise some eyebrows. The final quest being "Our Compromise," which follows the precedent of the 30 and 50 quests ("Our End" and "Our Answer") further suggests a connection between "Fray" and "Myste."
They're both aspects of the Warrior of Light's personality that they normally keep locked away - "Fray" is your anger, resentment, and wish to leave behind your path of suffering and sacrifice, while "Myste" is your guilt and desire to be forgiven for the countless people you've cut down meting out "justice." We put on a brave and stoic face and keep it most of the time... but deep down we suffer as much as anyone else, if not more, for a multitude of reasons.

well frey is apart of the wol but frey was also the former person who held the job stone as such i imagine myste is likely a younger frey both taking on aspects of the wol.

both are aspects of the psyche. "Fray" being the corpse of the body you find the stone at, he is manifested out of the desire to have a teacher to learn from. taking the form of the corpse you take the stone from.
"Myste", as it is theorized, is manifested from guilt, so he shares aspects of two people close to the wol that were lost in the events of Heavensward: Ysayle and Haurchefant.
