That part was actually taken care of by our neighborhood friendly Azure Dragoon after the credits.
I want to believe.
The underlings that Lahabrea raised went into corpses, if I remember right. The Ascians of the Twelfth were afraid of being annihilated because they didn't have the strength that the overlords did and thus couldn't force themselves into living vessels.
"I took him to the gym, started using moisturizer. Looks good, right?"
Was it Solus's coffin? He'd been dead for a little while by then and Varis was wearing the crown. I assumed he was spitting on his uncle's coffin, having won the war of succession.
In all seriousness...
I have no idea what's up with the Elidibus face pseudo-reveal. He taunts that Varis should find comfort in it, but Varis's usually-stoic expression is broken, he's shocked, and says "How dare you." So revulsion. How dare he possess ... whom?
"A Garlean" in general? Eli did show up just after Gaius got (allegedly) ganked. It might be enough to get that reaction, but there's little reason to be confident in it and I'm not sure where the plot would benefit from it (though I've got plenty of ideas for how to make Gaius being alive work, someone wearing him could do the same things even if it'd just frustrate me more for what it'd do to the big picture of Gaius's character).
Regula was a friend of his; that'd shock and disgust him. Zenos's death barely fazed him, but perhaps it'd do, though he literally JUST DIED.
When Aulus mal Asina first came out from behind the throne, I thought for sure it was Elidibus for a moment until I saw him. Maybe it was after all. Maybe the shock and revulsion was "How dare you manipulate me into experimenting on my own people and sacrificing my son and make me think it was my idea?" while Elidibus would say to take comfort in how he obviously has total control of the situation and (allegedly) shares many of his goals. Asina. Ascian. Hrrrm...
Or is it an Eorzean that he knows from Frumentarium's work? Is it one of our allies?
Or is it someone we've yet to meet?
There's just so little to go on with any confidence.

Can the next final boss be Rowena?
I have a bone to pick with her.
Save how many kingdoms so far and she still charges you tomes to save the world!
This has less to do with the ending and more to do with a bit of a loose thread from after capturing Castrum Velodyna. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I seem to remember one of the Scions or Resistance members mentioning how they saw a Hyur and a Lalafell skulking about in the distance, but they weren't able to apprehend them. Wild theory: clould that be Laurentius and Yuyuhase tailing us? We never saw what happened to them after Baelsar's Wall, after all.
It is most likely going to be covered in 4.1 to 4.3 showing the aftermath of the liberations and how they plan to set up their government and rebuild since 4.0 was the campaign to free Doma and Ala Mhigo. This has less to do with the ending and more to do with a bit of a loose thread from after capturing Castrum Velodyna. A lot of things needs to be covered as Doma was not as "bright" as Hien was raised to believe due to corruption within the Doma old government which Yutsuyu grew up going through facing the worst parts of life in old Doma and Ala Mhigo has yet to set up what type of government they wish to become now they are free along with dealing with the Young Ala mhigans born during the Garlean occupation and have only known life under Garlean rule.
Hmm, I'm not sure where I'd post about this, but when you fly close to Ala Mhigo, you can see into the city, near the palace the Garlemald standard is still hanging up, I'm pretty sure that wasn't intentional and was over looked, but I'm not sure where I'd let the game team know about it, lol.
This needs to be a thing.
As for the ending, the parallels between Eorzea and Garlemald continue...just as Eorzea is becoming more savvy with magitek, the empire is making inroads with magic and the echo. I think this is an intentional play by Elidibus. The war is starting, and if boths sides are on equal position that means not only a bloody war, but It will also mean, by finding which way the wind is blowing on said war, he can succeed with the empire as well as against it.

Based on the size, and some of the words he used, my gil is on Elidibus' face being that of the weasely little scientist guy who was responsible for installing Fordola's echo-like abilities, and then Zenos's later on. After all, he referred to the son as an experiment and one he regretted losing - which makes me wonder just how much of Zenos' crazy could be attributed to Ascian manipulation. He also has a midlander shape, which is unusual for Garleans, no? Even Cid breaks that mold with his mahoosive arms.
Not that I'm complaining. Rawr.
Ahem. Elidibus is Aulus mal Asina. Final Answer. :3

Nero joined the Ironworks. He did a dramatic glasses removal. Hells yes. Nero is the man I love to hate.
