So housing is a cop out. Friends can follow if they are really friends. Or you could voice chat and cross world party with them if they absolutely can't move. Those refusing to move are being stubborn.

You are seriously downplaying the sacrifices you're suggesting (with the understanding that we are ultimately talking about gaming and first-world problems here). "Organize for all your friends to move"? Seriously? And what about their friends? Do I organize their moves as well? And their friends' friends? Also, "Friends can follow if they are really friends"? So now I'm asking my friends to choose between me and everything else that matters to them in the MMO? I would have to be a pretty lousy friend to be placing them in that position.

I also don't want to just hop on voice chat with friends while we each play our own game, I would prefer to actually be playing the same game with them. It's a friend-thing.

Even your claim that housing is a "cop out" reads as ridiculous. Can you guarantee that people will be able to get new homes in precisely the same locations they had? Perhaps you either don't realize or appreciate the efforts some people went through to get specific plots, but that was a thing whether it mattered to you or not.

What you call "stubborn", I call "invested". Apparently you aren't and that's fine - for you moving would be a viable option. But for others it simply isn't, so maybe folks should stop insisting it is one.

Then don't cry when se forced a server split to a super low pop server. They've done it before.

I'd prefer to instead ask this question: Why is Square Enix allowing servers to be populated beyond the known maximum capacity?

You seem to forget that queues have been a problem on servers like mine for a while now, and yet despite claiming they're "full" and "closed", the gates apparently open at off-hours and allow more players to join in. Why? Full is full, no? Worse, Square Enix continued to allow players to pay to transfer to these servers even though they themselves were aware they were beyond capacity. "Full" unless you're willing to pay them, apparently.

Perhaps instead of running interference for them, you should be asking those questions too. It might end up saving your own server from the same mistakes.

Because it could possibly be seen as discrimination? People will rant, rave, and scream about anything up and down the halls until their ears bleed. It's very possible they tried to at first, but people kept harassing and demanding they do it until eventually they just gave up. The people that keep transferring to Balmung are the ones at fault, in all honesty. They kinda lose all right to complain when they willingly demand to jump ship to a sinking island.

They allowed it for much too long, which is how Balmung (and to a lesser extent, a few of the other really high pop ones) became so overcrowded. But they have finally put a halt to it. There won't be any new characters coming to Balmung until its population stabilizes to a more sustainable level.
