I just xfered to Balmung awhile ago..from Mateus( really wish i didn't ).
But you have to keep in mind the major downside to lower pop servers such as Mateus, as a dps, had HORRENDOUSLY LONG INSTANCE Q TIMES.
So i can see why, one would not want to Xfer off of such an OP server.

---Or am i being a noob(just came back to FFXIV recently) and the Duty finder searches across all the servers for party members?

You're wrong sorry. You do realize that Mateus and Balmung are on the same datacenter so they use the same duty finder. Your datacenter effects your duty wait time not your server. Silly reason to leave. Just wanted to point this out so people who think about leaving and see this don't get the wrong idea.

Any moment now it will be revealed that WHM is cheating on SCH with MNK after having had DRG's baby and DRG is WHM's cousin who is already married to PLD.

So Duty Finder groups people together from your datacentre (Chaos as an example, it groups together people from Odin, Cerberus, Lich, Omega, Louisoix, etc, all the realms from the Chaos datacentre). As such, your queues are affected by people on your datacentre. As Mateus and Balmung are on the same datacentre (apparently), they won't be affected by moving from Mateus to Balmung. It's same way cross-realm party finder works, allows people from your entire datacentre in.

As I'm sure you are well aware, it takes more than one person to be able to kick a player from a duty, so in all those instances there were at least two people agreeing they'd be better off without you tanking.

Instance queue time isn't a server specific problem, because the DF match you with players of the whole datacenter, not just from the same server.

I have read that it is a bug with fresh transfered characters.
Logout of the game and wait a bit before login again fixed it for some.

World population does not collaborate whatsoever to your queue; the queue is based off of your data center. What you're experiencing, actually, is a lack of tanks and healers.

No moving of servers will fix that. However, moving servers fixes is the fact that you can play on a server that won't crash or lag because of requiring x instances to be reserved. Balmung and Gilgamesh are on the same data center. So that's why we were having so many problems and bottlenecking in the first place.

Really, the only thing transferring servers is the queues in line to get on the server, as well as the massive problems of going into duty events. Your duty finder queue is not at all based on that, other than possibly having a smaller pool of people to pick from in the data center.

DF and PF both search across all world's on their data centers, so when it comes to getting into content, overpopulated worlds have no particular benefit over less populated worlds, but have a lot of negatives attached to them.

Why oh why do people keep saying this. Your long queue as DPS is NOT because you were on Mateus or a low pop server.... You're long queue is because you're competing for a slot among the 13 servers in the Aether data center.

On topic...yeap, just another Balmung "I can't get to play cause queue thread."

    Is it reset Tuesday yet.

I question whether I'm playing a PvE game with PvP mixed in, or I am I playing a PfG.

The Duty Finder searches across all servers within the datacenter.

So say we had a player named Greg on the Gilgamesh Server and a player named Sigurd on the Balmung Server; both Greg and Sigurd would be able to queue into the same instance and potentially meet each other. Now let's say Greg is a Bard and Sigurd is a Paladin; Greg will generally experience much longer Duty Finder Queues while Sigurd will experience shorter, potentially instant, queue times. This is due to the number of DPS players vs Tank or Healers; it also probably doesn't help that there are more DPS jobs than there are Tank and Healer jobs combined. There are just not enough Tanks and Healers to go around for all of the DPS's. As far as I can remember, Duty Finder has always pulled players from all servers on a datacenter back from when it was introduced during ARR CBT.

Now with Cross-World Party Finder, there really isn't a reason to play on a high population server in terms of finding people to complete an instance.
