The population will continue to rise until 2.0 comes out. As long as the game keeps getting better (and I see no reason to not believe that it will), more people will play. For 99% of us the TIME we are willing to devote to an MMO is worth much more than the $15 a month subscription. The game is getting better, people will continue to come back.

Hell most of these people claiming they won't be playing will still be here well after monthly fees are brought back in. They'll have 1000 different excuses as for why they didn't follow through on their empty threats to quit.

Well, take a look at a site like GamerEscape, formally Eorzeapedia. Back in their FFXIClopedia days, they were one of the hottest Final Fantasy communities out there. They were just known as "The Wiki."

Now they're ghost town and charges for FFXIV haven't even started yet. How are they supposed to maintain a wiki site without a community to back them up?

It isn't just the leaders that are important, it's the participation of those going to the site that keep it alive. It creates the environment for creativity and engagement. If you want to keep FFXIV alive you have to think about keeping this part of it alive as well.

I don't know what the future holds for opportunities to do that, but thinking about isolating people out of game is the wrong attitude. It's in your own interest, if you really want FFXIV to succeed, is to find ways to cultivate the community. If nothing else, I hope you can see the logic of that.

some people don't understand that the game is on life support. that is why they keep trolling and standing up for subs and not the community. typically the people supporting subs at the moment, are people completely happy with the game, they could care less if anyone else plays the game.

they just want to be left alone on their hope and prayers that 2.0 fixes everything and pulls a miracle of being a successful mmo after having the worst launch pretty much in history of gaming. no point in trying to make them understand why we feel the way we do, or justify our reason for dissatisfaction.

They're not trolling anymore than you are. You have an opinion of the game that they don't agree with, nor do you agree with theirs. That's not trolling. Usually a difference of opinions leads to a conversation or debate, but on these forums it leads to a myopic shitstorm that has been ongoing since launch. If you have an opinion that you publicly express, then you have to be prepared to defend it. Dismissing everyone who challenges your opinion as trolls is the wrong way to do it.

again what is your purpose of debating my opinion? lets go over the debate.

i don't feel the game is ready for a sub it feels half done.
the game has this, this, and this. its ready for sub.
well the game is missing this, this, and this,
you should like the game because[insert what ever reason here] i do.
i don't like the game because of [insert reason here]
well if you don't like the game you should just quit
well if you like the game why are you posting and not letting us vent out dissatisfaction in the online forums.
because i don't like you opinion
    well i don't like yours
well your and idiot because [insert reason here]
well your an idiot because[insert reason here]
you should not be trying to persuade someone else in not liking the game
I am not I am just venting my dissatisfaction and you don't like my opinion.
then why haven't you quit yet?
because i bought this game with hopes that i would have been like 2.0
you just want something for free
i don't want something for free IM getting it for free, waiting on SE to fulfill his promise to fix the game.
the game is fixed or will be fixed by 2.0
why should i pay till 2.0?
    because your playing the game.
but i don't enjoy it to much.
well that is to bad i enjoy it you don't just quit.

see my point? endless circle your opinion against mine that ends same way because of a dead debate that is one sided?

i have justifiable reason to be here as a dissatisfied customer, that don't feel its time to charge till ALL of the issues that plagued this game from launch are fixed. not just a portion of them. what is your reason to debate this? you are a satisfied costumer that should be happy with his purchase and enjoying it, instead you on these forums making this dissatisfied customer angry by debating a issue that would not effect you either way.

tell me your justifiable reason to necro the dead debate?

You're comparing a community from when a game was doing great and for years with a community that had to suffer through a bad launch and a year of revamp with little content added. Two vastly different things. Eorzeapedia is doing better then I would anticipate and the rest of GamerEscape is slowly getting life blown back into it with Aetheryte Radio becoming active again.

Cultivating the community is one important thing and hopefully they find ways of doing that with events and such, however this game needs to be supported by it's clients. It loses money every single day that goes by and if you really are a fan you won't mind putting in 12 dollars a month for the base fee. As far as I know that is still the payment plan is it not? Cheaper then most P2P games out there.

Charging also tells outsiders that the game has come to a point where it's worth something and is being actively supported and updated. A very important thing when MMO revenue is partly earned through their image.

@irongripz. There's an easy to stop a circling debate; you stop hitting the reply button.

I happen to agree with your overall opinion, but every post you make is inflammatory in some sense furthering the "pointless" debate that you seem to be trying to put to a stop. People challenge your opinion because they don't agree or don't understand it. If you post your opinion, then expect to have it challenged.

see my point? endless circle your opinion against mine that ends same way because of a dead debate that is one sided?
Yes, I do. Do you see your own point? You're participating in the endless circle.

Yes, I get that, but don't expect people to leave your opinions unchallenged. If you think the debate is pointless and dead, then stop participating in it. Again, you're making assumptions about my opinion. I think it's the wrong time to charge. It's my opinion. People are welcome to come and challenge it and I'll defend my stance. You seem to have an opinion, but are unwilling to defend it because it's "pointless and one sided."

tell me your justifiable reason to necro the dead debate?
I think you have your internet forum terminology mixed up. You don't know what trolling is, and now you think posting 8 minutes after the last post is a necro. By your logic, I don't need a justifiable reason to post.
