    This gem from today:

ME: you have to use leeches to get rid of the debuff before the next mech otherwise it one shots us like it did me

SCH: That's what I was doing

ME: well both me and the BLM had the debuff when I died

SCH: It either tank dies or you do your choice

ME: no need to get salty, no one's being a douche, this fights built so you can do both, it's not a choice

SCH: so you're salty and tilted?

ME: what because I try to offer advice and you take it as a personal insult

SCH: you can't read? I said it's a choice it's up to you if that insults you!

ME: Its my choice that you're bad?

    SCH: k bye you f***ing a**hole

The whole Cleric Stance situation for example: I'm not saying that Miste wasnt doing a good job or anything, but sometimes a more detailed explantion can do the trick (as in: explaining that cleric stance switches the stats, asking the healer to check for themself, ask them to heal once with stance and once without...) - that healer might have been to stubborn to do that, but as I said... I often feel very rushed to even give a short explantion or even just an advice without the insight and detail that would be required to understand WHY I'm giving that advice (because as soon as I would try and type that explantion the dragoon has run off, pulled the next set of mobs and the bard told me to shut up and just let the healer do their thing because "no one has died" - yes... thanks to hallowed ground...)

the real question is....... when did things like that start happening?

I remember when I was a noob player in 3.1 at the end of 2015. And I've done wrong EVERYTHING possible. Like...I was the lvl 37 conjurer who thought its ok to do the whole "lvl arcanist to 15 and become a whm" later
because at no point, the game EXPLAINED to you WHY you have to pick a second class or forced you to do it. It's just "boom, lvl 30 quest, requirement: arcanist lvl 15" in your face.
So the reason why I eventually did it is because I started struggling with heals sometimes and people questioned why I wasnt a WHM.

Then I became a WHM and threw around Regen happily just to be told by the tank to not do it during pulls.

When I lvled BLM, I initially was a Fire III spamming BLM because despite reading tooltips, I didnt understand the whole Astral Fire/Umbral Ice buff thing for some reason.
And a nice guy in a dungeon then quickly explained me a basic rotation. Took 2-3 minutes, but I was able to improve my dps output instantly.

Point is, back then, whenever I was a first-timer, in 99% of all cases, I didnt even have to ask for boss strategies...people were courteous enough to shortly summarize what the boss does
and always offered helpful advice for basic rotations and rules like "dont use Regen before the pull" etc. And I was grateful and LISTENED. Nowadays, its become a rarity that people even want or accept help. All the nice and helpful people seem fed up with people refusing help and stopped caring.

I dont understand why people are like this.
I didnt even ask for help and people were so nice and helpful to me and I appreciated it. How can you NOT appreciate this? Its what made me fall in love with this game even more: the friendly, helpful community.
And I'm convinced that same community is still present, but keeping a low profile cos theyre tired of the new influx of the "dont tell me how to play" generation of players.

    Just...why?

Good community story from DF last night -

Needed Baelsar's Wall for finishing MSQ. Can't recall the entire party, but I want to say WAR (me), SCH, NIN and a 2nd DPS I cannot recall. The only one with clear BW experience is the healer. I tell everyone at outset, it's my first time. After first two trash packs, NIN says "sorry for lack of DPS, my family is bugging/distracting me" (and I am generally patient with this because Moms and Dads can do everything in their power to have quiet time and it doesn't always work out).

Everything up to 2nd boss goes pretty well, albeit slow and steady. 2nd boss, we stink the joint up pretty fierce. DF slop on a pretty serious scale. Through it all, SCH is being cool, explaining mechanics, giving pointers, etc...while I and the DPS are just having trouble getting out of our own way. We wipe, and we come back and actually play like a team mostly, and we progress on. Trash clear to Griffin pretty easy, and then I put on a "watch your tank stand in fire" clinic for the first 40-50% of Griffin's HP before I finally wire my brain and hands together and start avoiding Sanguine Blade. I type a quick "lol, sorry" get a quick "np" from SCH and one of the deepz.

We win, and the party chat was nothing but positive, and I even got two player comms (people default to tanks I guess). Not one person said a single negative thing the entire run, even though it was slow, clunky and seriously silly.

The community can be pretty cool, really.

    A most Gentlemanly adventure

Many of my adventures with my loyal fans and associates always go this way as it would when lead by a most peerless agent of inquiry. As a tank I find myself in high demand and always welcome unless the contriving inspector is about.
To regal you of a most interesting tale it involved a duty with my father Godbert though we were getting to the bottom of a mystery involving a manor and a demonic lady, halfway through father mistaking slapped me causing me to faint either that or our white mage was too busy attacking and not well... healing. My deductive skills told me it was father though it was clear he'd frightened the mage probably due to him running around in his birthday suit again and they left... in all though we were able to finally finish the case ten minutes later though it was bittersweet as father led a Manderville dance with the others to my horror...

Sohm Al HM as BLM. DRK, WHM, and DRG.

The DRG was new, the DRK might have been too. But nobody said a damn thing about being new. Both the DRK and DRG got themselves killed on the first boss, by standing next to two giant exploding bulbs. Of course. It's a DRG and a DRK. What else could I expect, competence? Perish the thought.

So there I am, as BLM, desperately burning down the boss while it chews on my face and the WHM heals me for all they're worth. I manage to survive long enough to kill it.

And there goes yet another story of morons who refuse to say they're new, won't seek help, won't listen to advice, and just end up as huge burdens.

So something amazing happened in A12, I went as scholar and had a AST paired with me, we got to the part where we needed the tank lb, I did my usual, I buffed us up with a aldo ,eye for eye, then spread, but the aldo critted for 13000 and the ast had Aoe bole up also, the tank didn't LB and we survived it! It was the most amazing thing that ever happened!

So I mention this to her because I am going to die if she continues to attempt to heal with Cleric Stance on. I mentioned it twice and she never took it off and still had it on for the next pull and I almost died again before she finally took it off and healed me then started DPSing with it off then she put cleric back on and tried to heal me.....

    ...

Guess I was just trying to attack her though lol this is why no one wants to be a mentor; you try to help someone get out of a burning car then they claim you are attacking them and a person who was standing with you when you tried to help calls you annoying for trying to get someone out of a burning car.
It's a tone thing. Your tone comes off as condescending. That is why you need to prefix suggestions with jokes or emoji.

    eg

Miste: If you heal in (Cleric Stance), this dungeon will take longer to complete
    ????: (something questioning why)
Miste: (Cleric Stance) makes healing only 20% as effective, you have to turn it off before healing.
    ????: (something, contextually meaning no)
Miste: Okay if you insist. D:

And leave it at that. You repeated it 15 minutes later and at that point, the argument was going to just make it take longer. This is because you're the one who is impatient.

There is always someone who will say it is fine because no one died....you are missing the point and you don't understand the issue with a healer constantly trying to heal a tank with Cleric Stance on. Maybe in the Aery it didn't kill me even though it almost did (I was max level for the instance and max geared since I was sync'd down from a level 60 i268 PLD)...but if she doesn't listen to me then when she gets a less skilled/geared tank and/or less skilled DPS who kill mobs too slowly the tank will die if they keep leaving Cleric Stance on when healing.

It isn't about "letting someone go" I was trying to offer her help and advice as an experienced player, but her, like many others, consider help as an attack. I rarely say anything to people in-game anymore unless asked because everyone just gets their knickers in a twist as soon as you mention anything they are doing even if you are just trying to help them.
People will consider help an attack if it doesn't come from a place of concern. Many players just don't want to spend more than 12 minutes in a dungeon, and knowing that some behavior is going to make things take forever, they will disconnect themselves and eat the penalty rather than be mature about it. Hence, if the dungeon is going too slow for you, bite your tongue unless someone asks how to speed things up. Don't offer such advice unsolicited during the run otherwise arguments ensue.

I weep for the world we live in.

P.S. There is no flipping tone in what she said. Maybe if people stopped thinking if anyone says more than "Hi!!! <3<3<3" that they are being attacked we may all be in a better place. My CHILD needs less coddling than supposed adults in DF.

    edit: also:

Did you actually even read her post? She was concerned about the healer allowing people to die from being healed while the healer was in Cleric Stance. Nowhere did she say, or imply, anything was taking too long.

Based on past experiences, she is either not a troll at all, or the best troll to ever walk the Earth. I hope it is the latter, but I am near certain it is the former.
