SMN isn't a saiyan lol. If the SMN's abilities worked like that of a BLM and WHM that'd make sense, BLMs can use surrounding aether. If all we had to do was train, then what was the point of the trances to begin with. SMNs ability to summon and maintain it relies on their own aetheric reserves, their life force. The summon cannot be greater than their own life force, their summoning abilities are finite. Hence the need for using the trances. So unless SMN falls into a pool of aether and gets more ''life force'' or is handed some from some mystical being, it makes zero sense.

What could make sense is that after going into DWT twice SMN draws enough power from Bahamut's essence that he is able to summon him briefly. But that would be with the assistance of drawing from the trance, and SMN would still have that limit as they're using Bahamut's energy to make up for their finite reserves. But that makes a lot more sense.
