Except for not turning on an oath, which is weird, there's nothing wrong with a warrior being MT. I've been MT plenty of times when I outgeared the other tank, the other tank wasn't confident in the fight or didn't know what to do, or the other tank either didn't pull (Dun Scaith anyone?) or asked me to MT.

An Unleashed pull is actually the best pull. For now. :3c

It's a small thing, but the folks doing expert roulette are probably the least sympathetic audience for folks who can't bother to grind an extra 90 minutes on easy content.

I've never queued a 60 dungeon other than ARF specifically because I am not 230+ in every slot yet. I can wait for the two more nights (max) it will take, and the grind isn't that tough.
Honestly if the rest of their gear is fine, then a 220 ring is going to make very little difference. If you're talking a weapon or a good number of left side pieces sitting that low - then sure.
I am all for contributing as much as possible to the party but perhaps they are grinding out tomes of Scripture to upgrade that very slot.. In which case I don't really have a problem with that.

The issue is more that accessories are weighted as high as weapons in terms of iLvl..
If you have an iLvl 50 weapon with an iLvl 270 ring, the average iLvl of that gearset is the same as having an iLvl 270 weapon and iLvl 50 ring...
So the opposite of this is where I see the bigger problem - when someone is buffing their average iLvl with accessories.

That is more the issue there.. If someone can buff their iLvl with minor pieces such as accessories and have garbage left side / weapon and still do a dungeon, then that's the real problem.
Even worse is when someone tosses on i270 accessories that don't even use the correct main stat.. Such as tossing on a MND i270 ring while playing a DPS... Fortunately this won't be a problem in SB.

    --

Quick story for you here actually... Right before a maint quite a while ago I needed one more DR:ex to cap tomes because I had been slack during the week. Had 30 mins to complete it.
The DRG in the party was using a True Ice Spear (yes... A lvl 50 Shiva weapon) in Baelsar's wall. Along with assorted non-main stat accessories to bump their average iLvl..
    Yep. That happened.

Let's just say that DR:ex didn't get completed before maint.

I have examined like two players' gear ever, so I clearly don't care. I am just saying that I could see why the folks who run 60 roulette daily might be peeved off at someone scraping by in a few slots.

I am generally paranoid as a tank, so I don't even bother until I am confident in my gear/knowledge/skill. It might hold me back, but I am OK with grinding. I played UO and EQ1...so whatever.

Again, I agree. I just have my standards for when I will queue random to not feel I am slacking. I don't hold people to my opinions though, and if people are undergeared and going for it, let us press on and see if we can finish.

I just understand that not everyone at the top end thinks like me, and some folks are salty if you are scraping by in less than optimal whatever. I may not agree with them, but I can understand why they may be salty.

I also hold myself to a similar standard and I am sure a lot of others do too. However I don't really judge people unless they cheese the iLvl requirement etc..
Like you, I am also fine with players who have sub-par gear for the most part because I understand that many players are at a different level of progress to me.
I *generally* won't queue into a DR:ex unless it's on one of my most geared jobs. Because I am nearly always doing a DRex with the end goal of getting through the agony as quick as possible...

Decided to level a tank to 60 before SB - have been doing all of my leveling via PotD because I really just want it for the glamour and I have no interest in tanking. However, I was having a bit of fun on DRK so I decided to actually gear up and queue for leveling roulette on my level 35 DRK.

Got into Brayflox and immediately opened with "Hi, I'm new to tanking so bear with me!" Everything was going fine and dandy until both of the DPS (BRD/MCH) kept pulling before me (I took an extra 5 seconds to open a chest since I need gear). Pretty annoying, but hey... it's easy to pick up aggro off of that and I suppose it can get a little irritating to be in a lowbie dungeon after a while. THEN they started to pull 3-6 more mobs onto me without asking. I literally said at the beginning I was new... why would people do someting like that? It was a struggle tanking 6-9 mobs, I will admit, being the first dungeon I've ever tanked ever on DRK. After a good three pulls like that, I stopped picking up the stuff they were pulling and let them tank it. The healer was with them I'm sure because when the BRD/MCH started calling me a bad tank he told them he would heal them through their extra pulls.

Was it mean to not pick up the extra mobs? Probably. It took me a lot of willpower to not press Unleash because my instinct is to help people, but really... is it the norm for lvl 60 DPS to pull as much as possible onto newbie tanks because the DPS can't handle being in the roulette they queued for (LEVELING)?

This happened in Sastasha too when I first leveled up PLD to 15. Guess it's back to perma-PotD for me.

I would love to jump to your defense on this one as that kind of stuff is pretty dick-ish to do, especially to an openly honest new tank.
However more of a suggestion - if people do start doing this in the future, treat it as a bit of a sign that they are willing to try and handle more mobs.
On top of this it is an indication that you *can* pull more / faster with that group because they are indirectly asking you to.

Even if you're not entirely comfortable with it, you can pin it on them if you wipe. Pushing beyond your comfort level in dungeons as a tank is what makes you improve in my opinion.
If you wipe? No big deal. Just return and say "sorry I can't handle that many mobs, I am still learning this job".

Sometimes playing a little riskier is more efficient, other times it's not. But if people are pushing you to try and pull more, then there is no harm in trying it out.

You may not like my response but I am saying it with good intentions. It is sucky as a tank when people do that kind of stuff to you, but the easiest solution to that is don't give them a chance to - start pulling a little bigger yourself.
It not only reduces the hostility within the party, but can actually work out to be beneficial in a good number of ways.

+1 to above about pushing the envelope a bit everytime. I firmly believe you will only get better by pushing yourself bit by bit everytime you play.

Take me for example, when I first started to heal, I started to spam heals whenever teammates dipped to about 75% HP, and seldom in CS. Now I know how to gauge teammates, and how much deeps I can put out before turning off CS, or when healing is necessary.

    Cheers,
    D.

It's a real drag when dps are like that. Let them tank it if they pull on purpose. If they wanted larger pulls, they should've asked. Half the time the dps want larger pulls only to find out it takes them way longer to kill the enemies than it would have taken if you pulled them one group at a time.
