Well, we certainly can't have that.

Maybe let you glamour anything as long as you can wear it already?

Say you have a lv45 caster robe you want on your IDK.... Warrior. Well to glamour it on the Warrior you will have to have the ability to wear it as a BLM. Your BLM is lv 60 so you can glam the robe over your WAR armor.

I'll never be able to express my disappointment when found out I would not be able to glamour the mogfork with culinarian AF onto DRG.

Yup, that's what we were talking about earlier in the thread. Seems pretty reasonable to me.

Idk if it was mentioned in that thread, but they do this in FFXI now. Not sure why they don't adopt that for XIV.

I actually got this idea from XI. So I'm not smart, just a copycat

The answer to the thread title is very simple. "No, with very specific lore-related exceptions."

Those exceptions are also very simple, job-specific gear such as artifact, relic, and so on. Gear that is locked to only a single job (like basically every end-game left-side piece for half the DPS classes) would not fall into this category, as those pieces of gear aren't tied into lore (the restriction is just mechanical).

Really now? Then they definitely have no excuse...

Aside from that, "ridiculous" is subjective. I find the kinds of outfits we could put together if we had FULL access to all gear to be quite cool looking.
I know there is already ridiculous outfits. It begets the desire for more of it. I'll even agree that some restrictions are also ridiculous and I firmly believe that if more freedom was given, players for the most part will still want to look like their roles. I think it would really help establish a player who mains this particular job (takes it seriously), opposed to someone who is just playing it for whatever other reason.

If anything, I wish the devs would be more consistent when they toss around words like "identity". But the way I see it is they have already offered a compromise to their otherwise strict standards of this identity. You already can look ridiculous, and like something other than the role/job you play. You just don't have access to everything. Your options are still plentiful.

I find the identity argument to hold less water as time goes on, as more sets are released that are shared between different roles via asset recycling. The only identity that's needed is through weapons, which are very easily distinguishable no matter what they are, and shouldn't be cross-glamoured for obvious reasons.
