That's a change in the community, not the game. Gordias certainly didn't help, though.

What you're seeing is an increase in player awareness. Whether it be of game mechanics, or their Job, people are starting to fully understand what limits can be pushed to create the path of least resistance for the best results. And once "Advanced" players find how to push those limits, the community isn't far behind, wanting to replicate that success. It's "Meta", and it happens in every game. It was bound to be inevitable, but it took about a whole expansion, AND Gordias speeding it up, to get to this point. THAT is why you didn't notice it in 1.0. There wasn't enough time (or content) to experiment and find a Meta.
