1. This topic will go nowhere. I, also, am gay, but I know that SE isn't going to add in an entire MSQ character over a forum topic. Especially not on the NA forums.
2. This topic is by Skyrior, who literally just makes topics to bait everyone or as a joke. It isn't even a serious thread to begin with.
3. If given enough time, it will be littered with homophobic and transphobic comments.
I'm not a moderator, I can't control whether a topic gets shut or not, but all I'm saying is that it should since this will literally just lead to hate. But apparently it's super important we have this discussion that's been had 5000 times before, as I'm sure you have very unique and insightful views that will really ring true in the minds of old Japanese men.
To the OP:
I have always been supportive of the LGBT community and I want it noted I have NOTHING, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING against anyone who identifies as such, in fact, I continue to voice my opinion that the LGBT community should have equal rights to marriage, etc. But why do people feel the need to beg for their sexual orientation (be that straight, gay, les, trans, w/e) to be represented in a game?
It's a game. Does being LGBT/straight somehow change the rules of how an npc character functions?
Unless otherwise obvious, you could pick any prominent character in the game and choose to believe they are any sexual orientation. Unless it's expressly stated otherwise, it really doesn't change anything. If you want to believe Y'Shtola is lesbian. Then believe away! No one will stop you. But does it need to be out there in GIANT LETTERS? I dunno about you but I dont throw my sexual orientation around like a flag everytime I meet someone >_>;
Sorry if this comes off as rude or condescending, didn't really know how else to word this with out it coming off as such. It's kind of hard not to sound like a jerk in a touchy subject such as this...
Also, I vaguely recall a similar thread a while back about a few prominent npc's having been labelled LGBT. Cant remember which. May have been Aymeric or Haurchefant? I cant recall.
I wouldn't want them to include it just to include it due to pressure. I would want things to make sense. I feel it's insulting to the LGBT community to make it a gimmick. Plus relationships and sexual orientation haven't really come up a lot for the core cast of characters. Any of them could be LGBT and it just hasn't been mentioned.
I thought the WP couple was well done. It was subtle and endearing. Those two are adorable.
I think exactly the same. Like I said in my post, sexual orientation isn't a lifestyle, it's about your intimacy and isn't necessary to be exposed if it's not part of a conversation topic. And it definately shouldn't be used to dictate how somebody (LGBT people) should act, speak, think, or their likes and dislikes, it only represents what kind of person they are attracted to.
Actually we is because of the "living" tendrils attached to her. Its easier to see in Dissidia, but the devs confirmed it. But yes the Cloud of Darkness is genderless.
I like helping people with their Job ideas, it's fun to help them visuallize and create the job they'd like to play most. Plus I make my own too, I'll post them eventually.
So realistically, going by real world ratios 1/10 to 1/20 characters would by non-hetero. characters in the main scion group (w/ ironworks cos they're besically scions) we have:
Tataru
Alphie
Alisae
Thancred
Y'shtola
Yda
Papalymo
Minfilia
Krille
Cid
Wedge
Biggs
With me as the 13th, i'd say the scions have a pretty realistic number of lgbt characters for how many peeps we got.
It sure is 2017. What does that have to do with having gay or straight characters?
If they want to make a character prefer a certain sex, they'll do that. And even then, I hope it's not "prominent". I find that the sexual ambiguity of a character makes it even better than them yelling "I prefer males/females!" every second they're on screen.
You must play Overwatch a lot, then. If you want to play as a LBGTQ, go play Overwatch. I certainly do not want that in this game. How come cis and het people get special treatment then? They're always included.
No one is forcing anything, by the way. It's a simple request, and honestly it should not be an overly burdensome expectation for writers to create a world with more than just one kind of person.
The lore for FFXIV is different. It comes from a Japanese company. We don't need a game to be over-sexualized where characters have gender roles. I respect homosexuality, but to me everyone blows it out of proportions like it is so cool to be that way. My coworker is gay and he feels like he's cursed because he doesn't like how his life played out, with how losing friends and family because of his own actions.
