Normally yes I'll agree with you, but looking back at SE's track record? You see, this argument coming again and again is a problem to me. Why do people not realize that is a chance for WHM to be a lot improved? Protect, Esuna, Shroud, and maybe if people are right that "divine seal copy".... You should be happy to get NEW skills, WHM will be the healer with the most new abilities. How is WHM more screwed than every other healer?
Granite skin become lol -0.5 cast time.
Proshell become lol 20% chance to reduce MP cost for Medica.
So please forgive them for being so apprehensive.
Because the specific distinction of "pure healer" suggests whatever new abilities it does get will focus on healing; the last thing White Mage needed. Unless the devs revamp their healer philosophy entirely to something akin to WHM = Healer; SCH = DPS; AST = Both (Sect determines which), then White Mage will once again be warming the bench. Is it speculation? Sure, but like others have mentioned, SE has a track record of not following the meta trends. I mean, they flat out broke Astro just to finally get more people playing it.You see, this argument coming again and again is a problem to me. Ok, you get a point here, but remember that, at the end of ARR, WHM was in every group, and at the beginning of Heavensward, it was the go-to healer, while AST was sitting far back.
Back then, WHM didn't needed love at all, so why give them? AST meta really started end of Midas/Creator, it was already too late, I think they just waited for the expension to drop to give WHM a revamp well-deserved after seeing how it was not desired after the mistake they made of over-buffing AST.
Don't see me as an anti-WHM, my co-healer is a WHM and I think we do fine, but it's true that the job really need to define itself more. He's confident about Stormblood and so I am, so why not just wait and see?

I certainly hope you are right, and I hope whatever the new mechanics / skills are they make skills like Shroud of Saints, Protect, or even Esuna (maybe we get one on a cooldown) less necessary, and I would like to think the class designers know what they are doing (I'm certainly happy with the changes to PLD, and from the looks of it BRD / MCH), so there is some hope. That said, for them to not even briefly mention a single new WHM skill (and with the most unique looking skill used in the trailer being cross-role), leaves me more than a bit worried, and until we get confirmation otherwise (i.e. a brief outline of the new skills; Stone IV does not count) I'm not going to just pretend that everything is fine.SCH/AST will need protect, they will need esuna, they will need shroud and "divine seal copy" if that's a thing... That's already 4 slot taken for the 3 healers, but in the process, SCH loose almost nothing and AST nothing, while WHM will get a lot of new abilities. You can't tell me the devs are going to give WHM ~6/7 new healing spells without acknowledging their lack of support, and not giving any shape of it to them. Look, they literally said that "RDM will be a pure dps and no support!", and yet, he get a party 10% buff with a 4% decay every 4sec... This is not the first time the devs don't tell everything about what's coming next.
Also regarding RDM, I never heard them say 'no support', only that it would be a DPS similar to BLM and SMN... which to me just means that it's not going to be a hybrid (like BRD / MCH) as RDM is classicly known.
Oh yeah, that's just my interpretation of "pure DPS", but everyone is getting party buffs, and job synergy is something very important for them ( this is one of the first thing they said during the live letter ), so I don't know why WHM would not follow this logic.
Don't worry, WHMs main, I'm sure you'll get awesome stuff this expansion, and if this is not the case, you will truly have the right to riot![]()
Gutted WHM like a fish, check.
Didn't change the main thing that held back WHM in most of 3.0, check.
There were a ton of things they could have done with WHM. Extra damage. Utility or unique spells. Instead we get a general "they got more heals" and the ability to finally have some form of mitigation that probably won't even best SCH shields despite being our new ultimate job ability lmao.
Dark days for us WHM mains. And for people to tell us not to complain... It's like torture at this point. WHM slowly dying while we watch and get told "everything's fine". Going to be fun being locked out of PFs.
I feel your pain op whm is my fav healer and was my first level 60 SE has just stolen their abilities and just seem to be makin it a none compete with astro its truely sad.
This is the only way I can put how I see SE treating WHM. It's horrible and sad. Their iconic healer, through all their games, they are treating like it doesn't deserve to be.
I've watched SE for four years give my WHM a slow, painful death. The job I mained throughout FFXI and FFXIV.
And I don't know if I want to be around for the final nail in the coffin.
And to people, like the one below, you don't get to tell me how to feel or that my feelings are wrong. So save it.
Omg the giving tree...I forgot about that book !
Then why would they not show case some of this awesome new stuff in the job abilities trailer instead of showing us an uninspiring waste of time which is hands down one of the worst displays of all 15 jobs? The trailer showed Divine Seal being used-- which very likely means that Affection is this skill-- and Rescue. Toss a couple heals and use some vague abilities. It was a rather bland and pathetic display. Surely, if they had them, they would show off this awesome stuff to make us excited to play a WHM, right?
Hey, if you want to be pessimistic, it's your right. IMO, the DRK trailer was the worst, so we don't even have the same opinion here. Then why would they not show case some of this awesome new stuff in the job abilities trailer instead of showing us an uninspiring waste of time which is hands down one of the worst displays of all 15 jobs? I don't see any point arguing over assumptions, maybe you're right, WHM are screwed, maybe you're wrong, they will be the "OP healer of stormblood". We don't know. Still, it won't change my opinion that they know what they are doing, if not I'll be really disappointed, sure, but what can I do about it? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'll keep hope for WHM personally.
