It looked fairly underwhelming. The effects are nice, but they didn't show off enough to give you a good idea of everything the job entails. I went from excited at the possibilities to rather underwhelmed at what was shown so far.

I am hyped for RDM, but at the same time the AST skills caught my attention..I'm quite conflicted.

Looked cool to me, but I'll be honest and say I came in with zero expectation and near nil experience with previous Red Mages. So.. Not the best to judge in terms of throw back..ness. lol Which is important! I read sometimes people being like "oh this is FFXIV we do what we want here~" but SE has a massive history of doing throwback fanfare (I mean seriously 80% of the words travel from one game to the next lol)... So I greatly respect people who whip up arguments around that, maybe I disagree with the reference sometimes but on Red Mage specifically I am blank slate, and from there it looks fine to me but I've not posted on what it "should be" because I've got little care/clue. For Red Mage I like the idea of high mobility jobs (via abilities (not pure strafing)! Like Demon Hunter swipe attacks sort of mobility) so bouncing around is appealing to me ;D
This is where my Summoner arguments arise though, people are right the gameplay style has varied from point to point, blm, whm, nuke, pet, etc, but SMN has always been derp flashy until FFXIV and where I feel I can reasonably say "Summoner is not enough summoner". But to be completely fair Bahamut from our recent live letter was excellent, and the Ahk Morn previously too (there is the concern it is all about Bahamut now, and the Egi as always (imo) are bit meh but who knows the next expansion might do something else so whatever. Overall I'd say Summoner looked great and is on an excellent and visually appealing path, just hope they can keep that sort of thing on the up and up.
The other jobs looked pretty cool to me too though, like Warrior's Beast Eyes O_O, so I'm not sure if I'll rush into leveling them (RDM/SAM) or the others, only one I didn't really go "oooo~" for was WHM but I'm not really a healer in general so again.. Not the best place for me to judge. (My healing experience is AST in PotD lol! Although I do use cards and stance dance.. so I don't think I'm dreadful but no real hardcore experience with healers, just PotD/leveling dungeons/FATEs).
Would rate the whole job video highly well and had fun watching it, am excited for SB now![]()

I've been pretty "meh" towards SAM/RDM ever since they been announced.
I have all jobs at lvl 60 and I thought that I will level these 2 jobs as well someday, but I havent been very excited about them in particular.
When they showed the rdm skills, it was the first time I actually thought that it looks really cool.
So yea, RDM may be a lot of fun to play, and maybe it will be a class that I play more often along with SMN when I dont feel like healing.
Nice effects. It's much fancier than the current BLM.
Wait, they're separate?
:: Seriously, the aesthetics are A-grade. I just wish the sword amounted to more than a resource-burner than may as well be another series of oGCD spells from close range.
I'm pretty excited but idk if im gonna switch from BLM main to RDM. I'll try it out for sure though.

Join the club, but add about five jobs. With the lull XIV has at the moment, I've been playing tons of different ones and now... I'm so conflicted on what I actually to play when I'm locked back into one for raiding. ;-;
I thought the trailer for Job actions didn't do any justice to RDM or SAM. the felt a bit Meh.... I think the hype points of the clip were SMN and PLD

Looking forward to 24-man raids with Synchronized Red Mages like some kind of ballet. 15-20 seconds into a boss fight suddenly 9 Red Mages swoop into the boss, performing their sword attacks, before leaping out, with a blinding flashing as 9 identical pillars of light erupt on the poor thing.
It. Will. Be. Glorious.

Like SAM using one of their most powerful skills being just 3 normal slashes such excitement much wow :^) The build up didn't match that animation lol
