The question wasn't if you NEEDED storm path but if it was functional for optimization. And it is.....you can go look up speed runs on YouTube....they used it to gain those 2-3 war gcds.
And they used it on double whirlwind pre echo.

I agree that the MT/OT classification aint ideal at all, though we must face it, that's how MMO community works. Now about DPS maximizing, from my personal experience DRK was preferred to Pally on HW, solely because they were able to Main tank WHILE doing more dps than a pally ( even though it involved doing all sorts of gymnastic to not have to use your powerslash combos ) This kinda all started with WAR Rework bringing so much damage to the table in HW for a tank job, putting people in the mindset that tanks SHOULD do considerable amount of damages ... And i've seen VERY few runs in which tanks would prefer to stay in tank stance, which to me is sad, since it goes against the base definition of a tank :/ But maybe it's just me who shouldnt consider that my personal DPS matters less than staying alive and make sure that my DPSes actually have all the room to dps. On the same idea, it pains me how most Pallys i see don't use clemency
Storm's path wasn't used in a11s speedkill even pre echo. https://www.fflogs.com/reports/xByhX...-done&source=4
It's not really the fault of the players though. The encounters in creator savage just have too little damage going on the tanks, compared to let's say midas or gordias savage. All the top speedkills in a9s-a12s have quite literally 0% tank stance uptime, while in a8s speedkills back in 3.3 tanks still had decent amount of tank stance uptime (iirc something like 60% defiance uptime on the war during the 4 robots phase).I agree that the MT/OT classification aint ideal at all, though we must face it, that's how MMO community works. Yep, it also comes down to the tuning of encounters, which is why i was stating that we cant say what kind of design SB will have for encounters.
A decent exemple of it is actually ZurvanEX. Although the fight isnt actually Hard, since you can solo tank it, Zurvan's stream of attack actually does hurt even under tank stance ( heck 7k non crit hits on a i270 Pally with shield oath on >.> )
I'd love to see more encounters like that, that both puts emphasis on actual DPS requirements, and keeping your tank(s) alive because of actual heavy damage constantly going through ! Would fit more the idea of a tank to me
I can't tell who's parse this is. But if you check the list from 4th down you start to see storm usage. And the difference from it's first raid usage and it's non use is 1 sec in clear time from 4th to 3rd----yes a ton of other facts play into it.

Didn't during the Live Letter they say that it would be cancelled if you moved? Could someone confirm me on this?Do we know that there's no way to cancel it early? If we don't know one way or another, then all we can discuss is the utility. If it can't, fine but damage from a tank isn't everything especially if others can keep at it safely. If it can, the loss of DPS for a couple seconds, at worst, from a tank is nothing.
I don't think we need to see this new paladin skill alone but its synergy with the others roles toolkit.
Let's guess the paladin use divine veil + his wings, the scholar sacred soil and and deployement tactif, that's some heavy mitigation and raid aoe would do almost nothing.
By the way, if we watch every role new toolkit, it's seems like they want the new meta to be more defensive oriented. Almost every job now will have defensive cooldown for themself or their allies.
Since the meta was more focused on dps until now, maybe the damages will be heavier on stormblood.
not necessarily more defensive but more party responsibility/cohesion. For example Virus will be exclusive to casters! I like that. Just yesterday was running some raid and I got bitched at b/c I wanted the only true virus on our team (SMN) to cast it at set times thru the fight: He felt sometime of way having to worry about inc dmg for the party...... (we need more raid awareness abilities per player)By the way, if we watch every role new toolkit, it's seems like they want the new meta to be more defensive oriented. I don't know if I saw it wrong in the live letter...
But yoshi tried the big winged shield, commented, and moved to cancel then few secondds later put it back on....the gauge was empty and it's like no cd.....will be that on gcd 0.0
