They said it was the last live letter until after early launch.I really love the clean, unflashy style so far too; probably gonna take it over ninja as the new swift, simple melee. It reminds me of old samurai films and I guess in ff terms is more similar to the more toned-down ff6 characters. Square haven't shown any of the more complicated move abilities yet but at least it's definitely not a 123 masher.
I am the Fist of Retribution
I agree that in the video it was one of the more "boring" in terms of animations. But I'm more interested in how it plays and feels. I plan to try out Red Mage first simply because I love rapier weapons and the fencer aesthetic, but I am looking forward to seeing what Samurai will be like all the same.

It's weeburai enough but somehow they kept it smart, it still has nice effects tho so adding even more graphics would make it really too heavy and don't forget SAM is a melee. You don't want to not see AoE due to your flashyness

I love it. I have effects turned off to make things easier for me to see anyway so flashiness is no big deal to me. I've always liked ninja and warrior and this seems to be kind of a hybrid between the two.

Unlike everyone else here I guess, I did feel a bit underwhelmed by samurai. This isn't reality, it's literally Final "Fantasy," so it seems odd to me that people would really want realistic animations for one class while others (coughPLDcough) bust out literal magic wings and even monk, the classically understated melee class, can rain a beam of energy from their fists...
Sure, things like the new Bahamut summon seem like they might be obnoxiously large/flashy, and sometimes AST moves can literally blind you, but SAM's moves look like you won't be able to see a single one of them in a full party duty with everyone else's more flashy animations flying around you. To me, this job feels like it's going to get lost in the crowd badly. I don't need to see SAM cutting buildings in half ala the trailer, but compared to what we were shown for new moves with other jobs, the "wow" factor just isn't here on this one for me.
I'm sure I should wait and see if there are any more nifty looking moves hidden up samurai's sleeve before dismissing it, but as things are now, SAM will definitely be behind RDM in my priorities.
Personally, I think it just makes the Samurai more badass. You have all those other Jobs, with their giant light columns, massive explosions, fists on fire, and there comes a guy in a straw hat strolling around, who just draws his blade and cuts the enemy down, without a big fuzz.Unlike everyone else here I guess, I did feel a bit underwhelmed by samurai. I main Dragoon. Once the action really starts, I see nothing. The only things that make my presence known in the fight is when I use Blood of the Dragon, Geirskogul and the Dragonfire Dive.To me, this job feels like it's going to get lost in the crowd badly.
I have a feeling that Samurai is going to be one of these jobs (if no the only one) that will look amazing with or without effects.
I enjoyed the animations. More cherry blossoms, please.
