I said remove the requirement from the MSQ, not the game completely. change them to side quests and make the MSQ with quests that is only relevant to the story, can't be that hard.

But they are all relevant to the story. Or rather stories because there isn't just one story being told.
The 2.0 - 2.55 MSQ doesn't follow a single, coherent, storyline. It is rather a large number of interconnected stories where the only thing they all share is that the Warrior of Light is the protagonist.
In many ways it is the story of how the player character becomes the Warrior of Light - which makes everything that happens to the character relevant to the story in some way.
This is unlike the Heavensward MSQ which mostly sticks to a single storyline - the ending of the Dragonsong War. (Except for the 3.4 - 3.55 part which sets up things in preparation for Stormblood

A similar thing happened in another game I play, now that game isn't known for its story but I did enjoy it regardless for what it was. They attempted to streamline it to make it quicker for new players. Its a total mess and makes no sense. Now part of that could be the devs not wanting to take the time to really pick, choose and edit correctly or it could be that it really isn't worth the time. Recently they added back in some of the quests they took out but label them as side quests, guess what... ITS STILL A MESS! So no its not that easy to rework a whole story of quests.
Maybe down the road they will have a fix and possibly its being thought about now but it shouldn't be rushed. If they choose to rework the ARR quests it better be damn near perfect because for people who enjoy the quests and don't care about rushing to the end, I'm sure they won't be happy.
Clearly Yoshi and SE find selling a jump potion a better option then destroying the MSQs and any substance this game has and many people are ok with that.
