There are people out there that think the game is just fine how it is, so it comes down to personal opinion whether it will make the game better or not.

Does not matter, and you did not respond to my main point.
People tend to resist change no matter what it is, so a self reflection on that is advised.
When people quit over an issue, it passes the line of "just fine with how it is"
It is resisting change of being selfish in that view, and I like the game to grow, not shrink.

It is possible to have a civil conversation about this, although I realized that isn't the norm online.

The number of quests doesn't bother me. If the content of those quests weren't written like filler, they'd be more enjoyable. The prep for Titan and Garuda try to spin it as tongue-in-cheek silliness, but fail to pull it off. It does come across as a patronizing waste of time, and it didn't need to be that way.

The rest of this thread, about who enjoys what, and how to play the game, is the same tired rhetoric we see everywhere else, and is completely unrelated to the topic.

Subjective comment is subjective. Maybe what SE should do is remove all other content and just have MSQ. My issue as I can't speak for others is not the quests. It is the quests are mandatory to enjoy other content. Want to go get DRK, screw you go finish 2.5. Want to fish in the Dravanian Hinterlands, screw you go do MSQ.

Protect the sanctity of the lore. I swear the 14 community that feels the need to protect the lore are worse than door to door religious people. I get the same feel from this group as I do when people believe the earth is flat. I just don't understand how they can be so special.

That the problem here is XIV is being mixed with FF fans and general MMO fans and those two groups do not get along, which is why these arguments happen.

Can you physically see the air? Do you know what a trillion dollars looks like? Just because you can't see an issue means there isn't one? Playing though the quest lines as a new character, I defiantly can see how this game will turn people away just how the quests set up, like this next post points out:

We shouldn't have to be doing these filler quests because it gate's content. That is why they are hated. People are suddenly not allowed do them on their own time. I spent 2 weeks hating the game more and more each day because I couldn't just go to HW and get my new job quests because of these no content filler quests of running around. The fact I almost quit on this alt over it, and several others posted personal experiences of people seeing others quit over it, you still think it is a non-issue? You still think it is a nonissue trying get new players when the game becomes 80, 90? being blocked off the new stuff because of the pointless quests at 50 still?

At the very least there should be parallel progression. I can start HW as long as I am 50 but have the advanced HW stuff blocked off till I do it without doing a single 2.0 quest. Same with SB, if I am 60, I should be able go SB without finishing 2.0 or HW. this is how FFXI and other games do things? why is this game so obsessed with gating and these filler quests in the MSQ? The MSQ quests do not even flow well because of the filler can can be hard to understand at times. Ok why am I acting as a delivery girl again when I need to save the world and beat gardua now?

Also Moonlite brings up a great point with the fishing comment. I know someone that did quit over that. This person just wanted gather and craft and they did this all of 2.0 till maybe the last bits to play with friends (regrets it but whatever) point is when HW came out this person was very mad about seeing even more gating (this person was mad enough about not being able do leves because of gating them though battle classes) so.. they quit.

The gating needs to be seriously looked at.

It is a problem, it needs to be changed, saying it shouldn't be changed because "it is not big" is not an argument. There is countless stories you will never hear or know exists. So my quote that you claim is putting words in your mouth is not doing that and reflecting what you are implying. Just because you do not see it as a big issue does not mean it does not exist. Feel free to edit your post to save allowance ill check back, don't worry.

If SE wants more business they have to address that, if not, their loss. In the end I can't change anything other then say something does need changing.

Because of missing trust.
To get to Garuda you need Cid's airship. And the airship is in a ishgardian fortress full with dragons. The Ishgardians don't trust in general foreigners. And especially not if they want to go to the fortress the moment the Ishgardians want to conquer it back and spions of the dragons are running around.

This is the type of story too many would see as a filler and want to get removed.

While I understand you think it is unfair oblige players to do MSQ in order to unclok stuff, it is also unfair that players that don't care the MSQ are capable of unlock everything at the beginning in 1/10 the time than a MSQ player requires to unlock. So when players that do the MSQ reach the players that not, they will be far behind. I prefer everyone play the same game if possible. It is unfair player who didn't care play MSQ on A Realm Reborn can enter Ishgard immediately after finish character creation. Game is designed in the way that story is the edge of development. I think is not good idea change this at all. Not at this point. Game is like it is.

Otherwise, I agree that new jobs should be selected at the character creation screen. The only weird thing in this is the non level 1-30 class quest. (1-50 in case of Stormblood Jobs). This should be fixed to avoid a "void" in here.
