My husband lost his onion seeds because he is pretty new and didn't read the maint post. I told him this game is not like swtor, wow, etc. and he needs to find another if he can't pay close attention. I think he's quitting because the gil accumulation for players til they hit 60 with high level gatherers is so poor and he wasted a lot on the seeds hehe. After playing many MMOS, I find this the least player-friendly.

Ok? So are you implying that because the game was broken in the beginning and still has broken elements, I shouldn't try to offer feedback to make it better?

What I'm offering here (along with others in this thread) is good, honest feedback along with a request for a very simple text warning.

Sorry to hear about your hub's losses, I also lost my onion seeds and know its painful (I'm not a rich player, those onions would have gone a long way). I understand his desire to stop playing, as I am ambivalent about playing FFXIV now too.

I would also have to agree that FFXIV is not as player-friendly as it could/should be. Fixing the crops-dying-during-downtime, or at least warning of it, would be an inch in the right direction, though.

I'm saying if they going to do anything they need to worry about fixing other things then a garden notification. Considering how broken the housing system is to begin with they need to fix that first then worry about gardens.

But do you not agree that a garden notification/warning would help gardeners avoid losing crops during downtime? Especially new gardeners like me who have never experienced such a downtime before? Such a solution would be simple to implement-- just add a few lines of text to the regular notifications regarding server downtime.

From a customer service stand point? Yes it would help cause in my experience with customer service people are too simple minded and put too much faith into others that it will be handled for them (which lot would ignore it anyways and still complain about it). Now my personal belief no I don't think it needed atm maybe if they ever fixing housing then add it but until then no.

So you admit that it would help from a customer service perspective, but you personally feel like now is not the time for it? I don't really understand your personal perspective, especially considering how easy it would be to provide a text warning to players about gardens. I'm not calling for them to re-design the entire housing system or even just the gardening system, I just want them to be clear about how downtime affects gardeners in their notifications/warnings, since this is not common knowledge.

As nice as a warning would be (and I agree, I think one would help since freezing the game doesn't seem possible with a lot of the resets tied to the actual calendar), But I still think we'll have 80% complaints, because if peeps are already too unaware to realize "I can't water during maintenance = my plants will die" they probably won't notice the notifications either. XD The complaint will turn to "It should be bigger! Why don't I get an email about it instead? Ugh, they should just have gardens disable automatically for us a week before because reading is haaaard," etc... etc... I exaggerate obviously lol. But you gotta know, people who pay attention never have this gardening issue, people who don't... well is a little text notification really gonna help them? ;P It'll be mixed in with the wall of other text they post about maintenance, and obviously no one reads it already.

I understand where you're coming from here, but actually people who pay very close attention DID have this gardening issue during the most recent downtime (as previous posts in this thread testify).

That said, yes, I think a little text notification would go a long way: since as it stands there is no notification, to provide even a small notification would move the issue from zero (0) visibility to at least SOME visibility. And anything more than zero is... well, I'm not a math guy, but you get my point :P

No they did not pay that close of attention otherwise they would not planted stuff instead they continued on like nothing was happening and assumed SE would take care of them and pause the timer or w/e instead of stopping to think about it and some did but decided to take the gamble and lost.
