I took up playing EQ1 in early 2000, and I decided to make a necromancer. At the time, I was listening to Judas Priest's "Screaming for Vengeance" and the lyrics sorta fit for a necromancer . So vengeance became Venjenz.

It's been the name of my character (or main) in every game, as well as my gaming forum and entire web presence for gaming ever since.

It all started with a 3 year long D&D campaign. In it we had a player who had his character Phoenix Maelstrom. Phoenix was famous for doing dumb stuff, and our party in general was famous for accidentally producing kids. Most was through the DM assuming things when we got to drunk. Phoenix had a pair of twins with a human girl he abandoned like his father did to him. Eventually named Miles and Evelyn.

We decided to do a follow up game that involved the children, post the problems our original campaign caused for the world. We randomly decided who was going to play which of the kids, I got Miles. I even tried to make him a traditional final fantasy dragoon. Not that easy in that system. I cobbled together this weird mosh of classes and feats that sort of worked. It was fun but ultimately almost go him killed plenty, jumping off high things is not ideal.

So when I started this game I wanted to play a dragoon, and what better a character then my dragoon wannabe, Miles Maelstrom. While I couldn't match his race exactly because he is a Half-Elf (Fire-Elf), did my best to make him even look like how he was described in our game. Including the white hair with blue fire highlights. My sister had the normal black hair with red fire, of fire-elves. Or at least how our DM envision that race.

Edit: Because of archaic restriction on character limits that can be bypassed with edit, so why is it even a thing in the first place, and you'd think with server updates they could fix this too.

I came up with the name using a mix of an old DnD elf naming guide and my own imagination prior to finding the racial naming convention posts. Thank the Crystal I did. Feeling semi-obligated to come up with a pesudo-French name would have made me vomit. I don't know what it is, but those sorts of names don't fit with Elves/Elezen in my mind.

There is some history behind my character name. When I began playing FFXI I originally tried to make a character simply named Blue. Unsurprisingly, that name was unavailable. There is a specific reason why I wanted to be named Blue, but I will get to that later. I came up with an alternative that I liked which was Blueyes (pronounced blue-eyes). The single 'e' was intentional and it's a minor pet peeve of mine to ever get called Blueeyes.

FFXIV came around which introduced last names for our character. I realized that Blueyes didn't work all that well as a first name (and using the name Blue Eyes wasn't something I considered for reasons related to what was stated above) so I went with the shorthand version of my FFXI name, the name I intended to use in the first place, which was Blue. However, now I needed to find inspiration for a last name. My all time favorite spell in FFXI was Plenilune Embrace, a healing spell drawing power from the moon, and was a spell used by Blue Mage, coincidentally. It was in that moment when the name Blue Plenilune clicked.

There is a big reason why the moon is significant to my name and this goes back to my reason for wanting my FFXI character to be named Blue. It is based on a character of an anime with the same name who has a relation to wolves. Props to you if you know what I'm talking about. I began my adventure as a Miqo'te Keeper of the Moon and you can believe me when I say I was deeply conflicted about switching to Au Ra.

Technically speaking, Blue isn't actually my character's first name. It's a nickname. Formally speaking, her name would look like <insert first name> "Blue" Plenilune. As for what her first name actually is, that I will keep a secret.

I've been using the name Mocita every since Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, naming my characters in pretty much any game I play that doesn't have their own name. I couldn't really keep it with the lore, since when I looked up the lalafell naming and mistook Plainsfolk for Dunesfolk. I came up with the surname Magicita because of my characters great affinity towards magic usage. Only 'after' looking back at it, I thought about my character being raised by Plainsfolk after the Calamity hit and giving me that name. Weird, maybe, but it's the best 'lore friendly' thing I could come up with.

Once upon a time in a small village of the vulture tribe, a healthy little miqo'te girl was born. She had inherited the reddish hue of her mothers hair and the golden eyes of her father. As was custom in the tribe, she was to carry the tribal letter and the name of her father in her name. Her personal name however had yet to be decided. Half joking, half condescending, the father suggested the name Gheena, but her mother refused, slapped the Nunh crosswise and decided to call the girl Zojha instead - A name non-miqo'te have since forever failed to pronounce correctly and consequently has never been registered properly in a census.

As she grew up, she also grew to dislike her masculine parent and ultimately decided to ditch him both in person and name. In his stead stepped the perpetual misfortune that seemed to follow her like the tail over her butt.

    The end.

Texa because I'm from Texas and a friend from Europe would call me that when everyone else just said Tex and I thought it was really cute.

Yuu is for ユウナ/Yuuna/Yuna from FF X who's been my favorite fictional character since that game came out when I was 12. I thought just putting Yuna as my last name would look silly so I used the katakana spelling and took off the "ナ/na".

Not sure what I love more in this post, the necromancer, or the fact that JUDAS PRIEST IS MENTIONED (fangirling)

My main character's name is "Hyomin Park" (or Park Hyomin, if you want to go by how Koreans usually write names, with the surname first). I named her as such (not really intentionally ignoring Keeper naming lore, since I didn't really know much about it when I started playing FFXIV) because she's an OC of mine that I've had for several years (created around the time when I was hardcore riding on the Hallyu Wave). She is very near and dear to my heart, and I chose to use her name when I embarked on my FFXIV adventures a year and a half ago--especially since the friend that convinced me to finally start playing FFXIV is one of the friends that was around when Hyomin was born.

I'm not sure how many people are familiar with Korean names or with Korean naming conventions, but they are usually the surname first ("Park"), followed by a given name usually made up of one or two syllables ("Hyo-min"). While both are commonly written in plain Hangul (Korean alphabet), they also have Hanja counterparts (Chinese characters), where each character in a given name has a specific meaning--so kind of similar to Japanese names. Korea has a list of Hanja provided by the government for use in given names (Japan also has a similar list of Kanji for use in given names).

So, with regards to my character:

    Park Hyomin
    Hangul: 박효민
    Hanja: 朴 孝敏
To break down the meaning of the Hanja:

朴 ("Park") - Hanja character used for the surname "Park"; means "Simple"
孝 ("Hyo") - Hanja character used for the first syllable "Hyo"; means "filial" or "filial piety"
敏 ("Min") - Hanja character used for the second syllable "Min"; means "clever"
I chose those two Hanja for my character's given name because she is extremely loyal to her family and those she considers family, as well as being extremely clever and quick-witted. I chose "Park" because it seemed to flow the best with "Hyomin" while I was searching through the common Korean surnames.

Ironically enough, there is a Korean idol named "Park Hyomin" (where "Hyomin" is not her given name, but a stage name) in a formerly popular Korean girl group (they are actually releasing one final album before disbanding soon...sadface). However, my character was not intentionally named after her, despite many people commonly thinking so upon first meeting me (though she did contribute to me actually seeking out this idol and listing to her group's music!). My character's name originated out of combining the names of two of my favorite idols at the time of her creation, and then I went a step further and chose Hanja for her based on her personality after researching Korean naming conventions.

Bonus: my character also has a twin brother, whose name is "Park Hyojin." I won't go too in-depth on his Hanja, but usually siblings in Korean families have similar names. I tried several different combinations before deciding that "Hyojin" sounded the best for him. He's my main retainer on Hyomin that holds all her dyes, glamour prisms, materia, and other important trinkets. :3

Family picture~ (best one I have since all my older screenshots are on my PS4):

    Sorry for the long post, but I really get into naming characters, and will spend HOURS UPON HOURS researching names and meanings before finally settling on one. ;_;
