What is the story behind your character's name?

When creating my character, I wanted to design her as a slightly vague reference to another game series I'm as passionate about as FF. So that way it could work as a conversation starter and I might be able to meet people through shared interests. The other game series in question is a bit of a global phenomenon and involves capturing monsters that fit in your pocket.

So I picked a particular character to design my character around and used her Japanese name "Kasumi" to make it a little less obvious. For her last name "Cascade" I chose the reward she gives the player rather than the city she resides in "Cerulean" since the name flows better in conversation this way.

Only two people in two and a half years figured it out without any help, but the name just stuck anyway.

I've grown to enjoy healing in most games and I felt White Mages were iconic to Final Fantasy when it came to healers - couldn't hurt, right? After all, I was "Heal" for one of my previous games.

Anytime I play something else (especially a Black Mage), I get punished by everyone. Oh well

Lore is important and I wished to find a name that was somewhat lore-friendly. Planning to play an Elezen, I needed something that would sound vaguely french.
And the first sweet French name and surname I could think of were those of a character I very much love, Hiver Laurant.

It was not my intention to base the FF14 character off him, I merely borrowed the name. There's a lot of other characters on other servers that more closely resemble the actual Hiver.

Some elaborate original names in this thread kind of make me feel ashamed about that choice :') Perhaps I should have picked something more unique.

the derpy redudance because I'm weird and ever so left field while center field at the same time. Anyone that's ran into me in game has seen me in one of three ways: awkward to no end and weird, a complete troll and dbag, and other times simply a wind up ramuh minion.

Whichever way I am I do so because of how I feel that day. Like many others I play after I get home from an 8-9 work shift, so some days I'm really irritable and others I'm just exhausted.

I like to use real life historical names whenever possible in the games I play. I went with the Polish spelling of Nicolas, which is Nikolas, for my character.

My very first character was named Ahlan. It's the name of a character I created for a story I hope to write someday. My current character used to be named Auron because I'm unoriginal and he's my favorite FFX character. Plus it worked for the drk aesthetic of carrying a giant sword. I was glamored in a red coat for a long time lol now my characters name is Nyx because I love Nyx from the Kingsglaive movie. And once again because I'm unoriginal lol

Edit: Funny story, before Nyx I tried out the name Colonel Mustang. Boy was that a mistake! I love FMA but everyone I ran into seemed to want me to role-play as The Flame Alchemist. Granted, I should have seen that coming. I quickly changed to Nyx because I couldn't handle all the unwanted attention I was getting. If one more female PC had told me they should have brought their mini skirt, I probably would have vomited haha

Lol My name Crucius Lapin came from a name generator for that Hunger Games facebook game they had for a while. I liked the sound of it so I kept it. Wasn't until recently I learned that Lapin meant rabbit in French, I had a bunch of people online screaming at me "BUNNY" and I was like "...???weht???"

Xoria is a genus of moths and I just happened to like how it sounded. She's an old character, having been carried over from Ragnarok Online, then Perfect World Internal, Forsaken World, Phantasy Star Universe, World of Darkness, Dungeons and Dragons, TERA, Monster Hunter and Starbound (soo, 12 years running?).

Her original last name, the first one I used in FFXIV, a'Cazut, was supposed to translate as "the fallen." Xoria has always been played as the healer role. When no healer role is present (like Monster Hunter), she plays archer/bard/support fire. So, for most games, her name was read as Xoria the Fallen [healer].

Her current last name, Tepes, comes from historical figure Vlad Tepes. More widely known as Vlad the Impaler and the figure behind some of the lore for Dracula. My husband and I both share a love of vampire lore for the last 20 years, as well as a love for the Castlevania series (pre-Lords of Shadow and Konami's poor choices).
