In a game like WoW, where the UI can actively obfuscate things from you, this sort of move makes more sense. I feel like XIV does a pretty good job as is communicating what you need to do when, or that anyone who cares to know how to do their rotation can find the resources needed to help with this.

The priority here seems to be new players, which in a sense is logical, since you are going to have player churn in any MMO. It's a double-edged sword though. If you alienate your existing player base, you will actively contribute to this churn.

Anecdotally, most existing players engage with the glamour system. You seem to be enforcing the false dichotomy that content to one group of players necessitates that you lose content in some area you care about. This can be the case, but usually isn't. The development team is divided into sub-groups that each have a project to work on, devoting resources to one project, does not necessarily mean it will starve other areas of content. All of that being said, this job specific UI would compete with a glamour log for resources, but only because I suspect Square would just modify the armoire UI to accommodate a glamour log.
