An alterac valley/ashran style opt-in and play zone could be interesting if done right. I would love a huge evolving player controlled pvp zone in ffxiv

Depending on how it is done besides the excitement of evolving (omg, I love upgrade/evolving things.. its an illness, like those dang idle games lol.. Housing system needs evolving.. *darts eyes at GW2/WS/WoW*). I think this might actually be a nice way to get people into casual-ish PvP moments with occasional extreme intensity scenarios. Like you have those groups bolstering defenses and excavating their team's resource generators meanwhile others fight off some of the waves (giving it a PvE ish, X-Hero Seige feeling) meanwhile skirmishes happen, but of course there are moments where a lot is on the line as waves come at the gates or are fighting in the main hall (those helms deep, omg they're in the last room we have available - and that is nearly purely player v player).
Unfortunately these may not be the best modes to have what Yoshida wants with the competitive scene but I still think it might be a different style of PvP enough so that the more PvE geared players can still take part in PvP and get the rewards that go along with PvP (so those PvP haters can still get the cool glamour they wanted without feeling like its a 180 in play style). So even if it doesn't show up in the competitions it might be a good jumping stone for the PvE players into PvP, as well as the fun of special mechanics and evolution.
I thought just general FATE events in the world could do more of this too, like you have the red belly hive thing in South Shroud - it could have gone ever further, but I did enjoy the base concept already.
Anyway, siege / escalating events sound fun![]()
We definitely need more variety, I hope your thinking of the mine cart with the switches right?I have been a very avid battlegrounds pvper in WoW but not FFXIV since I find it rather uninteresting in terms of design. I was wondering if future maps couldincorporate the following:
-Use of Vehicles: such as Magitek Armor to use to lay siege to the other team's fortress/barricades. A team claims the node and then has access to the vehicles.
-Beastmen Themed Encampment Nodes: where upon capping grants the team a unique ability. For example, claiming a sahagin encampment grants all players a slow ability to cast since its kind of their thing or claiming a sylph encampment node grants a light self heal or regen.
-Supply Drops: supply drops that have a rng spawn and grant players who pick it up a damage boost, speed boost etc.
- A "Carry the flag" mode: a player marches a flag from opposing team's spawn to the home fort. I enjoy this mode and would like to see a similar mode in FFXIV.
-A "Escort the mine cart" mode- I really enjoy this map in WoW and think it would be a cool edition to FFXIV. Essentially a cart spawns in the center of the map and players have to escort the cart back to several drop off points on the map.
- A "Kill the PVE Boss" to gain followers- there could be a mode that has unique bosses on the field and upon defeating said boss grants followers to the team. These could be "beastmen" that help fight for a set duration.
Feel free to post any ideas you have for future frontlines as well that you wish to add.
Something like Wintergrasp would be nice, bascially the idea would be have a pvp open would area that people can join in every set time (was 2 hours in wow for this I believe) and whoever controls the zone (wins) gets to do that exlusive raid for those 2 hours. Should get more people in pvp but to have stuff like this work, they need better pvp balancing and less button bloat in PvP.
So solve the button bloat I would just drop ALL PvE abilities and have PvP only ones so the mode can actually be balanced.
