I think most people tend to have a relaxed expression most of the time. I generally don't walk around with a smile or a frown on my face the whole time. That would be exhausting.

A heard of Lalafell with the Sneer or Taunt Emote permantely fixed onto their faces scaring the townfolk of the city states. XD
In all seriousness, I would love for this option too! I miss my Auri always looking like she smiled when she was a Miqo'te. Now she feels too serious looking. ...And my still Miqo'te character, I would really love to see an occasional smile or slight frown instead of her staring with an emotionless expression all the time.![]()
YES! The only thing I don't like about my character is that he's a perpetual sourpuss. It's fine in cutscenes, since he tends to smile all the time in those, but it's awful in the overworld.
I would absolutely adore this change. There are times when Kos wants to wear a smile, and sometimes she wants a more angry face - I wanted that face for a long time after finishing the ARR 2.55 MSQ.
I think it depends on the situation? When I'm out in public among friends or a large group I usually maintain a smile at all times. Not necessarily a big wide one that shows the pearly whites, mind you, but a smile none-the-less, even if inwardly I am groaning and just want to go home. The opposite is true at, say, a funeral, where I'll maintain a more somber expression, even if I didn't really know the person who died and am attending more for their loved ones than because I had any connection to them.
There are situations where it behooves one to maintain a facial expression for more than the 5 seconds that the current emotes allow for.
Reason #1 this is a bad idea: Nothing but ahegao faces as far as the eye can see.
How about conditionals.
Whenever Aymeric starts creeping around me -> disgust.
Whenever Alphinoud starts anything -> disdain.
Whenever Lalafels anything -> punt.
Whenever Y'shtola or Scathach is nearby -> dote
hmm. seems like we are missing some necessary emotes.
How about having it so that the face can cycle through various 'neutral' expressions with hints of happy, bored, annoyed, etc just as with the idle animations, except this would be at all times unless disabled. Then you can set a character mood option that would modify that expression cycle to match the mood selected. The expressions would not be as pronounced as the emotes themselves, but it would allow you to have some variation beyond the static neutral NPC look we have.
Honestly, I'm up for anything that doesn't force me to type /smile every 5 seconds when we're trying to take group screenshots.How about having it so that the face can cycle through various 'neutral' expressions with hints of happy, bored, annoyed, etc just as with the idle animations, except this would be at all times unless disabled. I know what you mean. I was just thinking that this might be a workable middle ground for those who find the specific emotes too strong or feel that they might look 'wrong' depending on the circumstance.
Even if they don't open it up for every one that already exists, at least give us a few options so we don't all have the same ultra serious expression all the time. I'd like to use smile, which is low key enough to be reasonable as someone's default expression, but looks a bit nicer than just being super serious straight face all the time.
