Another thing players should ask is, should a company have to run a beta for free for roughly two years. Would players rather have the option to pay the full monthly subscription or would they rather the game go offline until it reaches 2.0. I'm not siding with any one decision on the matter, but I believe that this should be taken into consideration.

They definitely could have taken the game offline and just started from scratch or scrapped the project all together like so many MMOs do when launch doesn't go well. The fact that they didn't shows how much SE wanted to support the community that was still supporting them in regard to XIV. It's really sad that after all they have done to make amends to us, people turn around and smack SE across the proverbial face as soon as they learn SE is turning back on payment. Talk about looking a gift horse in the mouth.

Aye, but that doesn't apply to everyone on that side of the fence. Some people legitimately feel the game isn't ready to be payed for or some simply can't afford to do so. I think that's fine and I hope those people return eventually.

The problem are the people who are only playing because the game is free and feel SE is "all up in their kool-aid" by bringing in subscriptions.

For some people, the game is worth a subscription. For others, it isn't. Either way, it's SE's choice on the direction they go, and it they choose full subscriptions, they will still have a playerbase which generates at least a little revenue.

Yep, I agree with this fully. And I don't fault anyone for feeling it is not worth their money come 1.20, if that's how they truly feel. Just don't rage about it, troll the forums because "u mad," make boycott requests/threats. Simply don't pay and play something else.

Problem is... the people behaving this way still want to play without having to pay for it. At least a good majority do which is why all the gnashing of teeth. The people who just won't pay because the game isn't "good" in their eyes aren't playing right now anyway. The ones that are still playing are full of you know what.
